Yeah, I don’t necessarily dislike her – but she’s given me zero reason to like her or root for her, per my post above, plus the complete lack of personality that jsc1953 noted.
One season, I wish they’d wait until week 5 to eliminate anyone. Give everyone a equal chance to improve and build a fan base.
Votes would be accepted after each show just like always. Then week 5, eliminate the bottom 5 based on the cumulative votes.
Who knows, you might have someone emerge that really bombed on the first show.
Based solely on what I’ve seen on the show, Bristol doesn’t seem unlikeable exactly, she seems flat, neutral, blah.
There have been other stars who couldn’t dance but managed to connect somehow with the DWTS audience so you kind of half cheered for them even if you didn’t really want them to win. There have been celebrities with more baggage than Bristol has who have been able to “show other sides of themselves.” Bristol isn’t showing the ability to do whatever they did.
She does have the weird vote for family values and America through DTWS votes, so i’ll be surprised if she’s not in the semi-finals, if not the finals no matter what Mark choreographs for himself.
This whole season seems flat to me. No real WOW! perfomances, although some good ones. No one I care enough about to cheer on, although I think Kyle has a lot of charisma, and Rick Fox is very hot. It’s all just blah.

Sorry I’m a bit late.
First of all, I want to know what the hell was Shakira thinking putting her dancers in MC Hammer baggy pants?! They looked terrible! Was she trying to make sure they didn’t look as hot as her?
That said, I’m surprised Florence got the boot. Then again, I suppose that the fans who would vote for an MTV reality show character or a gay commedian probably didn’t switch to Florence Henderson after their fav got booted off.
I’ll be really surprised if Bristol doesn’t go next. Kyle will hang on longer just because he more entertaining, even if his technique sucks.
Anyone know what’s going on with this show? They just showed the first 45 minutes twice(!) and then didn’t have time for all the contestants to dance, nor for the marathon! This is what happened in the Dallas area, anyway. Was it the same for you?
Nope, Dallas got screwed – perfectly normal show here.
Well, other than Jennifer totally falling apart.
Local issue with the feed? Here in the Houston area, we got everything, such as it was.
Anyway, seems like just about everyone had problems finding the right tone and/or technique for their Pasos and Tangos. Brandy’s was closest to decent. Bristol had, IMO, her best dance so far, but I still don’t see her getting near the finals. Kurt and Rick appear to have plateaued. Jennifer’s weirdly manic and uncontrolled performance was the shocker of the night for me.
In any event, I think the marathon set the template for the finals: Audrina, Jennifer, Brandy. Now watch one of them get knocked out in the next couple of weeks.
Side comment: I would never consider myself expert at judging this type of dancing, but it was interesting, seeing the top ten audience faves, how many glaring mistakes I noticed in some of the performances that I never picked up on the first time. I guess I’m learning something, then.
Audrina was weird and stiff looking, not just during her dance, but also during the marathon. I want to know where that Bristol has been. Her dance was nice, the marathon was too much Mark. Lacey continues to anger the costumers, but Kyle did a nicer job tonight than he has in a while. Jennifer has gotten weaker for the past two weeks, hopefully they can find it again, whatever it is.
Showing the Top Ten just reminded me how blah this season’s performers are. None of the wow factor of previous seasons.
Jennifer Grey was pretty manic, wasn’t she?

I was surprised the futuristic tango was only #6. That’s personally my #1.
What were the top 10 dances? Hubby and I were watching Guns, Germs, and Steel and lost track of time. I realized what time it was and turned it over in time to see Derek and Nicole starting up.
Was surprised that Drew & Cheryl’s freestyle was number 1 and Gilles & Cheryl’s dance was number 2. I like them both, but thought there were several better dances to chose from.
That was a futuristic paso, but otherwise I agree.
Seeing Derek in eye liner was a bit of a shock last night, but I’ve come to the conclusion that he could have been a half-way decent glam-rocker had he been alive in the early eighties.
I don’t get all the love for Brandy and Maks’ paso; I thought it was awkward and that she made some visible mistakes.
I wish the show would cut out all the gimmicks. It doesn’t need a theme every week, and I’m tired of the largely inappropriate music for the dances involved.
I was wondering if it said anything about the current dancers that the producers chose to spend the first 20 minutes of a non-elimination day on previous dances rather than the current dancers.
I thought it had more to do with the fact that normally by now they’ve reduced the Monday episode running time to an hour and a half. I’m guessing they don’t have anything they consider a promising filler program, and so are stretching out DwtS to cover two hours.
Did anyone see the advert for Skating with the Stars, to start in November after DwtS? That looks like it could be disaster on wheels (well, blades). But at least there won’t be any geriatric contestants (at least none in their right minds). I’m only 54, and I feel pretty confident that if I tried to ice-skate, I’d break a hip!
I thought that too. I was surprised because I just assumed that the Top 10 wouldn’t be until Tuesday. Very strange to do it that way.
:smack: Slip of the tongue. Er, fingers.
Thirded (or fourthed) that they just kind of dumped the top ten into the start of the show like that – I’d’ve expected them to draw it out through the entire hour, or, more likely, do on a Tuesday.
When do they go to two completely separate dances – as opposed to one dance and a group number? Will they do a team thing next week then two-per-week the week after?
And, Oy!, as a one-time skating fanatic (still enjoy it, no longer follow it rabidly), I’m definitely planning to watch SWTS.
Top 10 Dances –
Reminded me of how much I dislike it when the freestyles contain no ballroom elements whatsoever. There should be some requirement that they spend a certain amount of time in hold, or that they demonstrate elements of one latin and one ballroom dance or something. It wouldn’t be 100% freestyle, I realize, but it would make them vaguely resemble the rest of the show.
Audrina - She really felt like she was walking through the dance more than dancing through it. Paso is staccato and it’s really easy for it to feel super disconnected from element to element, and she really did.
Kyle - Showed some serious skills, but the song was just really weird and the wrong pace for Tango. Still, they worked it better than I would have expected.
Jennifer - The opposite of Audrina, some of the ‘moments’ of the dance got lost in the constant skirt swinging speed of it. She barely stayed on her feet at the end, and it felt like she’d been building up to that the whole way.
Rick - I really love Rick, but this seemed to be one of Cheryl’s patented “You Stand There While I Dance Around You” routines.
Bristol - She looked relatively good. And I mean relative to her usual performances, not necessarily relative to anyone else. But she still looked incredibly tenative through much of the dance. And the air guitar was really weirdly inserted. It might have worked if there was more of it, or if that kind of element had appeared elsewhere in the dance, but as it was, it seemed just shoved in there.
Kurt - His packages continue to amuse the hell out of me. Although his lines were apparently all wrong for the dance, I thought it was a plus that he actually had some lines for a change. He at least seemed to know what he was doing with his arms this week, instead of just thrusting them about wildly to his side.
Brandy - I liked this. It was a bit shaky in one or two spots, but on the whole, it worked with the music and she worked it.
Dance marathon –
What the hell is up with Kurt and massively unflattering pants this week? Were they the same massively unflattering pants in both dances?
I thought Brandy & Maks were holding up well in the marathon despite having just danced, endurance-wise, but almost every time I saw them, they were doing basically the same thing. That could well be just the camera-work, though.
Jennifer was really losing it towards the end, though – I think Derek’s massive tumbling run was mainly to give her a chance to breath.
It seems like any time the two partners got far apart from each other across the floor, they got eliminated. Again that could just be the camera work.
That was a tango.
I thought that while she made some mistakes, it was head and shoulders better than any other dance of the night. I thought it was scored pretty reasonably.
I ignored the first half and only payed attention to the new dances. I think rock was a bad choice because the tempo of most of the songs was faster than the dancing.
