Had an idea for Kirstie’s freestyle. Why not come out in a Rebecca Howe executive power suit? Dance a bit, and peel it off to a dance costume. At least it would fit with Kirstie’s fan base and be more original than asking a sixty year old to match Chelsea’s moves.
Only dance I really, really liked tonight was Hines’ Quickstep. I thought Len did a good job helping him improve his footwork in that dance.
Yeah, and it was nice that they actually dressed her in something flattering for once. I don’t know what it is, but the entire season they’ve dressed her in things that would absolutely look normal on Miss Piggy. I really liked the orange dress this week.
Overall a good season. This cast has been a lot of fun and I think it’s because they genuinely bonded. I began the season only knowing two of the celebrities. Who would have thought Master P’s son would be so good. Or a sixty year old actress battling a severe weight problem. These people stepped up and worked their asses off. Literally in Kirstie’s case.
I’m happy with the winner.
Surprised, because Hines wasn’t the strongest dancer. I did always find him one of the most entertaining. Then he cried that night Kym danced in spite of a possible career ending injury. He’s really a nice guy. Kirstie has such a huge twitter base that I resigned myself to her winning. No doubt she worked hard, but I just never enjoyed her dances as much as Hines.
Poor Chelsea, with any other partner, I would have been cheering her all season. I just can’t stomach M. Ballas anymore. I know it’s not fair to Chelsea, but Mark is half the team and he hogs the spotlight during the dance.
Agree with you, aceplace57 – up to and including the “Mark, go away now please.”
One thing you left out – Hines’s football fan base turned out to [insert appropriate football metaphor here] all over Kirstie’s. A lot of Steelers fans voted for him, whether they were watching the show or not.
I’m okay with that: although he wasn’t technically the best dancer – Kelsey was, clearly – he turned out to be pretty damn good, and he was clearly having a whole hell of a lot of fun. And, as you say, his (completely genuine) tears the night they danced after Kym’s injury – icing on the cake. Nail in the coffin. [Insert appropriate football metaphor here.]
I feel sorry for Chelsie. As many people have said, had anyone else been her partner, she probably would have won it.
But I didn’t really care for the freestyles (what is it with Maks & freestyles? When he has limits, his choreography is fun to watch. But when he can do whatever he wants, it turns out that what he wants is just weird.) and I wasn’t really wowed by the rest of the finale. And in the end, I wasn’t really rooting for anyone.
I thought it was a good finale show. I noted some things with an eye to mentioning them here:
The Black-eyed Peas. Their dancers seemed to be a rather surprisingly effective mix of hip-hop with Bob Fosse. Nice lasers.
The boxing announcer had utterly adorable dimples in his cheeks.
Chris Jericho is quite funny, and, I suspect, quite bright (it takes some brains to do really funny imitations). Maybe this season’s appearance will generate some business for him outside of whatever kind of extreme fighting he actually does (I have no idea).
Wendy Williams is annoying in any setting whatsoever.
Max danced very, very well when he was with other pros, rather than supporting a contestant. He looked impressive in the design-a-dance.
I love that Romeo did a sentimental ballroom number as his encore/swan song. What a total transformation from the sullen boy of the first few episodes!
LOVED the rhythm piece assembled from various sound-bytes throughout the season!
I thought all three contestant redux dances were well-chosen (and well executed, for that matter), but the straight tens were almost certainly what you might call “policy tens.”
What kind of work has Sara Evans had done since Season 3? She looked about ten years younger! Is a face-lift/plastic surgery the female equivalent of the newly-divorced man’s red convertible? Or did she just drop a bunch of weight?
Yeah, Chelsea was the best dancer, but I’m not unhappy with the result. Over all a very good season, despite the horrible themes.
I would have preferred Chelsea to win - she was hands-down the best and I think letting Mark’s grandstanding cheat her out of votes is terribly unfair. I dumped all my votes on them, every week.
However, I have no problems with Hines winning, because it meant Kym winning. SHE deserved it for sure, and the pair of them were SO adorable and likeable, it’s impossible to be upset about their win.
I don’t think Kirstie deserved second place though, frankly. That was all just drumming up on Twitter
