Ah, okay. I was “reading” her as much younger than that, thus the ooginess for me. (Louis being gay doesn’t seem as gross as her being underage, when it comes to the demand for sexual chemistry.)
I didn’t vote at all last night – I’m not invested in anyone yet.
For the men:
I expected slightly better from Joey Lawrence (I seem to remember him dancing in Blossom and in his music videos. And also, bald is an “interesting” choice.) But not bad. Tucker Carlson was bad. Jerry Springer is this season’s George Hamilton. Mario Lopez needed ritalin in his “behind the scenes” interviews…but, nice. I think they were comparing Jerry Rice to Emmet Smith. Emmet actually danced - on the very first episode. It took Jerry several to do that… but Jerry was trying really, really hard, much like Harry Hamlin did last night.
For the women:
The exact reasons I hate Vivica Fox’s acting made her dancing look pretty good. I liked the “High School Musical” girl. Who is Willa? I’ve never heard of her at all -plus, I thought she and Maksim had no connection or chemistry on the floor. Her high scores were odd. Sarah Evans and Miss USA were meh.
But when you watch a show smiling the whole way through - it’s a good show. Glad it’s back.
Now I just need to find someone in Seattle who will teach me international latin for a reasonable price.
Okay, I finally got a chance to watch this this afternoon. May I say that while Mario may need his ritalin, I need an icy shower after his dancing? Oh, my! ::fans self::
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I’ll be watching this show again.
Tucker Carlson was so appallingly bad that I actually kind of hope he sticks around at least another week or two, just to increase his discomfort. As long as it doesn’t get dragged out as long as it was with rap daddy. I’m just hoping that Ashley doesn’t regret getting Harry; he was so stiff and tight, I was surprised he could even move. What concerned me the most was that he seemed to have absolutely no innate feel for the music, and it’s really hard to dance without being able to at least sense rhythm. My hubby is like that; he’ll clap along with something, and he’s just flailing away to the beat of his own drummer, and doesn’t even realize that the entire rest of the crowd is in synch with each other. He can’t dance, either.
Jerry Springer is going to stay longer than he should, just because he’s a willing participant in being made a fool of. And Viveca Fox’s dancing was fine, but what bothered me was that her costume let her boobs sag nearly to her waist. That is just not an attractive silhouette; she has a gorgeous figure, but she looked just awful with all that low-hanging fruit.
Just checked the ABC site - voting/scoring this year has changed, instead of ranking 1-11 and adding the audience & judges scores, they’re going by % of total points awarded + % of viewer votes. (so, if the judges really hate someone it’ll take a lot for the viewers to keep them in anyway. It would have gotten rid of Master P a lot sooner, I think, maybe)
That puts them so far with:
Tucker/Elena - 5.7%
Sara/Tony - 7.1%
Jerry/Kim - 7.5%
Harry/Ashly - 8%
Shanna/Jesse - 8.5%
Monique/Louis - 9%
Joey/Edyta - 9.9%
Willa/Maksim & Vivica/Nick - 10.4%
Emmitt/Cheryl - 11.3%
Mario/Karina - 12.3%
and the cutoff times for internet voting really screw over the west coast…weren’t they later last year?
If that’s the case, then that’s bullshit (on the judge’s part, not your’s!). If Lynn Swann can be an accomplished ballet dancer, then a football player can manage on “Dancing with the Stars”.
I thought Emmitt was a little overscored, but he was pretty decent. I’ll definitely give him credit for having a nice fluid routine, performed with total commitment to the movement. The judges’ marks were different from what I would have given, but by no means unsupportable.
I thought Emmett’s routine was terrific – he just has such a presence that, combined with his smooth and really graceful movement, he was really magnetic. And his partner, Cheryl, is pretty magnetic on her own, so for him to hold his own with her in his first effort was impressive. For such a big man, he is so light on his feet, and he’s just so likeable, it’s a great combination. I can’t wait to see him do a smooth dance like a waltz – I fully expect him to glide lik we’ve seldom seen.
I expect him to go a long, long way, quite possibly into the finals.
I agree, Emmit has personality and I hope he sticks around for a while.
I also hope Harry steps it up, I think everyone was expecting more from him.
The scuttlebutt is that Louis is gay but I don’t think that has anything to do with the chemistry. Sometimes two people have chemistry and sometimes they don’t. I thought he had great chemistry with Lisa despite them looking like they could be brother and sister. Fans said that he had great chemistry with his professional partner.
Oh, as for proof that gay men can have chemistry with women, did anyone see the Celebrity Duets where Queer Eye’s Jai Rodriguez sang with (I forget which female singer it was)? That was a damn hot performance.
The scuttlebutt also says that Mario has had a lot more dance training than he admits to, so he will likely be this year’s Stacey Keibler.
Oh, and never ever read the ABC message boards, it hurts your brain and makes you say things like “scuttlebutt”.
Which one? Louis seemed like he had joined the partner-of-the-month club for a while there.
I agree that you don’t need actual attraction to create chemistry. But Len’s advice to go out to a romantic dinner is definitely not going to do it, either, when one partner’s gay and the other is probably noticing that he’s old enough to be her father (not quite, but she probably has the contempt of the young for the not-quite-young).
I don’t remember the name, someone posted about it on the ABC MB’s, I think it was the one before his string of partner’s-of-the-month. I don’t recommend trying to read those boards though. There was an idiotic spammer or two and apparently no moderation, plus most of the posts were of this type … “OMG!MARIO IS TEH HOT!11 HEE WILL WINN! tukker sux!”
Louis scares me. He seems overly-competitive and looks like he could kill his partner if she screws up! His face is fierce and when he snaps into a pose you can almost his his tendons crack! I guess I prefer a male dancer who shows off his partner rather than himself.
How foolish is it to schedule the evil quick step this early in the game?
Re: Jerry Springer. I saw on one of the entertainment magazine programs that his partner injured her knee and can’t dance tonight. So, will they conjure up a substitute for him? That really puts him at a disadvantage.
He’s been practicing with Lena Kosovich (Nick’s wife/partner). But I thought I heard that Kym thought she would be able to dance tonight. I guess we’ll see.
Quickstep isn’t really all that evil. It’s easier than foxtrot to do well, actually.
