Amarinth - Leila’s Paso song was horrible. And it was the music from Tetris. How they thought that could be a Paso Doble is beyond me. It’s beginning to feel like Maks is deliberately sabotaging her.
The dancers just aren’t improving. And starting next week they’ll have to learn two dances? Get rid of John, Billy Ray, Clyde and Leeza right now.
I wonder if at the beginning of the season they warn the “stars” what they’re in for with the music. I bet it’s hard not to feel a little screwed over when Joey and Kym get a perfect Paso song and Maks/Laila are dancing to that hot mess they had last night. What, was Kriss Kross’s “Jump Jump” not available? I was so distracted by the music that I didn’t see a thing they did on the floor.
Do you think the other pros will be pissed if Julianne and Apolo win, her being such a whippersnapper and all? I think they definitely have a shot at it.
Regarding the shameless vote pimping: Sometimes it seems a little blatant, but then I remember that they pretty much do it for everyone to some extent. Aw, vote for them, she’s crying. Aw, vote for them, his mom loves him. Aw, vote for them, he has a cute daughter.
Leeza is a goner. Looked good though in the dress.
Leila, I think, suffered a bit from the choreography. That dance was kinda dull. And she may be one of the ones that didn’t spend enough time practicing. Perhaps she thinks it’ll be simple to win since she started out so well.
Apollo - meh. He’s ok and did not too bad a job but I didn’t love it.
Leeza - oh that was bad. She was clearly not dancing but rather moving by rote - very much like BRC. I don’t think she has much feel for music. I thought she should’ve been the first one off.
Ian - he kept losing the beat. I have no idea what was up with Len that he missed that.
John tried some good stuff! That leap was pretty brave. Paso’s difficult, after all. He is trying hard and he definitely had the right feel - it’s just he’s a bit clumpy.
Heather kept losing her balance. Which I suppose is a bit mean but if the slower dances cause her trouble, the foxtrot might be the end of her.
Clyde is phoning it in. It’s too hard - he didnt’ think it would be so hard. He doesn’t look much like he gives a hoot, despite what he said when they suggested that. I think the waltz is the easiest of dances - if he can’t manage simple rise and fall, he’s done for.
Joey is the Melinda of DWTS - the others need to pick up their pace bigtime to have a hope of catching him.
BRC - I don’t like him much and he’s got zero feel for music, but props to him for working so hard.
Hilarity N. Suze, last season was better. If Leila and Ian and Apollo bring up their game, there could be a real contest. The very cool thing about this show is that you see people improve week to week and some get quite good. There’s no professional-level dancers this season like there were the last couple, but Joey and Leila have a ton of potential.
My guess before watching was that the male pros would make the female “stars” look better than the female pros would make the male “stars.” So it was kinda interesting that that didn’t happen.
I caught part of one episode, maybe the first year they did it. Some heavyweight boxer was doing the quick-step. He actually wasn’t too bad.
I might watch again if I can tape it. I can’t believe they are getting TWO nights out of this, one for the competition, another for the results.
Glad to see the end of Leeza – I found her “fabulous at 50” schtick annoying as hell, and I’m the same age. Now, Clyde, if you could just boogie on out and join her … though I’m guessing learning two dances for next week will take care of that.
I got it…I got it? I got it? Completely nailed it, right on the dot, straight flush, 100% a-ok CORRECT?
Yowza.
Okay, not that much of a surprise, but I’ll most definitely take it.
Hilarity - Always remember that they need to find contestants 1. who are willing to learn a multitude of dances 2. and have the physical skills to actually do them 3. and who can then do them in front of a crowd and three unforgiving judges 4. for up to three months without interruption 5. for the privilege of winning a hunk of glass. Not a simple task meeting all five requirements.
Heather fell?! That figures, I go and watch something else and something interesting happens. Oh well, she’ll still get the sympathy votes.
I saw she was on the TV Land Awards show as a presenter
What the hell?
Show producers: Hey, let’s get that one-legged British chick no one likes who was married to Paul McCartney. I hear she’s got only one leg! She’s be the perfect presenter for the bionic woman even though her connection to entertainment is superfluous.
I think it saved what was otherwise a not that great dance.
Luckily, she was up against BRC who didn’t move from one spot for the first 2/3rds of his. I don’t believe he got scored better than Clyde.
Apolo and Julianne are so darn cute. And good. And really, really cute… I love them.
Loved Apolo and Julianne. Awesome dance. They have a natural ease with each other that is great to watch. Plus they have the talent to back it up. It’s funny that Apolo is a speed skater because I think he’d have made a great pairs ice dancer.
I thought **Ian ** really worked the hip action, though strangely I didn’t find it arousing. I think the judges are a bit harsh on him. Cheryl is a really good choreographer/teacher.
I completely agreed with Carrie Ann about Joey over-dancing the part. I thought he was going to throw a hip out of socket. (Sign Lance Bass up because I think he’d do great. I’m guessing Timberlake wouldn’t be available.)
**Laila ** and Macks. Egads. It would have been far better had he let her handle the “fuck me” poses and simply reacted to her. Or vice versa. But both of them? Blech. It was like watching a vamp-off. Sex without vulnerability is pornography. It was obvious that neither dancer was remotely interested in their partner, because they were too busy posing for their Penthouse centerfold.
John really tried and he really does have more natural rhythm than the average white guy. I agree that he captured the flavor of the dance better than most of the other couples. It’s time to find a replacement for Edyta because she keeps choreographing to her strengths and not the strength of the guy she’s paired with.
**Heather’s ** dance wasn’t all that inspired, IMO. I think the judges are too easy on her.
I think I’ve come to the conclusion that **Clyde ** is just too tall. Technically he’s no worse than Billy Ray, who consistently outscores him. Clyde is so darling but it’s impossible to pull of a sensual dance when your partner is staring into your sternum.
Billy Ray. Yikes. I don’t know how he acts off stage, but I agree that he’s absolutely frigid on stage. I’d like to pour a few shots down him, dim the lights and see if he’s capable of just feeling the music. Though I must say that the two of them have great natural chemistry *off * stage. Karina was actually crying when she saw how wounded Billy Ray felt about the criticism. (Why can’t he translate that emotion into his DANCING??)
Can we please have a double vote-out tonight? Ugh. We TiVo the show, and I asked my husband if we could fast forward through Clyde and BRC last night. Sadly, he didn’t let me. Those were painful to watch!
OTOH, Apolo and Julianne were so good that we backed it up and watched them again. They certainly deserved their scores, and if he keeps improving, he may win this thing.
Late replies! Sorry, I recorded it like I said I would and didn’t get around to watching it until now.
Ian Zeiring - Solid. I haven’t seen a bad performance from him yet. Clyde Drexler - I’m not seeing any kind of improvement from him. Maybe it’s the height, maybe it’s having to do it live, but he just seemingly can’t do anything other than stiff and tentative. Heather Mills - No idea whether that fall was “worked” or not. It’s not easy to deliver sensuality with half a leg, and I think she’s safe. Note that I only start giving a damn about placement near the bottom since, well, there’s one loser and there’s everybody else. Joey Fatone - If anything, he dialed it back a bit this week. Maybe he realized he needs to save his energy for the finals and just concentrated on giving a solid performance? Well, if he can get 25’s with that, he’s going to really, really hard to beat. Add a fellow N’Sync member for some friendly coaching? Unstoppable. I just cannot see him not making the final, he’s just too loaded. Leila Ali - I’d buy that jealous-boyfriend bit a little more if if happened a little before the flippin’ fouth round. Really like what I saw from her, and she captured the tone and style perfectly. Still a strong contender. Apolo Ohno - At this stage, I’m actually more concerned about Julianne Huff. You’re not supposed to break out the whip at the halfway point, and if her drive for first, first, first wears him down, he’s going to crash and burn at the worst possible time (something I never want to see happen). Other than that, great performance. Ohno is one of the few people who’ve entered this contast with energy, grace, and style. I’m sure the 30 was a gift, but who cares, he deserved it. A hard combination to beat. John Ratzenberger - He’s good…not great, but at least he’s good. He’s done the absolute best job with the tools he has, and he’s doing his best to make this entertaining. It’s good to see this kind of effort even though we all know he’s not going to win this. It’ll be tough when he gets sent off. Billy Ray Cyrus - Why the hell are the judges coddling him? That was a LIFELESS performance, and if anything, Bruno Tonioli wasn’t harsh enough. It’s become painfully obvious that he dosn’t like this contest, he doesn’t like his partner, he doesn’t like the grind, he isn’t graceful, he isn’t energetic, he can’t keep up, he’s completely out of it. Why’s he still around?
The one I want to go is BRC. Dagnabbit, put the poor varmint out of his misery already. I can take another week of Drexler’s robotic plodding.
I couldn’t believe BRC wasn’t the other star in the bottom two – he’s got Master P level voting popularity. Can’t those poor teenage girls see how frigging miserable the man is? Let him go home! He’ll be happier – and I’ll be happier. We’ll all be happier. Except, perhaps, his partner. Nah, we’ll all be happier.[/spoiler]
Upon seeing the recap show, I’m fairly convinced that Heather Mills’ fall was contrived. If you watch her partner, he doesn’t react at all like I would imagine someone would if his partner were falling. If anything, he seems to enhance her fall.
I keep thinking to myself that Billy Ray Cyrus is a musician - how could he lack any sense of rhythm, showmanship or talent. Then I remember that he’s a country musician. Maybe if they have a spinoff show called “Line Dancing with the Stars,” then his plodding about will put him at the head of the pack.
Clyde seemed very much like he wanted to go, and he really needed to. He gave up on any pretense of dancing weeks ago, so that he appeared to walk through every routine, randomly holding his arms out to the side every now and again.
