Wasn’t that painful? I couldn’t freakin’ believe it.
I was just watching The View and that airhead Elizabeth Hasselcrap was going on about how unfair it is that people like Master P have to compete with Stacey and Drew who have some experience in dancing and the people can protest this by voting for Master P because at least “he’s trying”. No, he’s not!
Lol no kidding. He’s showing his peeps that you can half-ass anything you put your mind to. Represent!
I enjoyed Stacy Keibler, but I wish the host would tone down the “sausage” comments. Why doesn’t he just pull a sausage out of his pocket and start rubbing it if he loves sausage so much?
I didn’t understand the total silence for Tia. Her dance was unmemorable, but certainly better than the rapper. George’s dance was fine - not terribly light-footed, but okay. The bubblegum singer was actually pretty decent, and Jerry was very light on his feet. Stacy was very good, actually danced, rather than just standing there posing, as many of them seem to do. Tatum is just freaky.
I wish they would reveal the last week’s loser during the next show, rather than having a separate show just for that.
StG
Me too, but I reckon the couple who spent the week practicing for 10 hours per day only to get voted off at the start of the next show would be a little testy.
This was the first time I ever watched it. It was entertaining.
I was a little confused as to why some did he Quickstep dance and others did something completely different. I guess they’re both rumbas…? Anywho, one was decidedly sexier than the other.
Loved watching Jerry Rice. And I thought the Lisa Rinna did much better than she scored, even though she bugs me a bit.
Stacy was a lovely dancer and I agree that it’s a bit unfair to put someone in who has obviously had ballet training into the mix with people like Tatum O’Neal and Master Peeved Off at the World.
So, they have a whole separate show to announce the loser? How bizarre. How ever do they fill up the rest of the show?
The male-star-female-pro couples did the quickstep – the female-star-male-pro couples did the rumba. I guess they figure watching 10 or 12 of any single dance is too much for one show. IIRC, once the numbers are whittled down, they don’t segregate by sex, but I could be wrong about that.
The results show tonight is only half an hour, which is only about 25 minutes longer than it needs to be.
TiVo alert! Apparently the results show tonight is going to be an hour because they couldn’t pack all that excitement in a half hour. Yahoo TV still shows it from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM (central), but ABC.com doesn’t mention anything on at 7:30 PM, so I’m not sure what to think. Record with caution.
Yeah. On the UK version, they announce the winners and losers later the same night of the competition.
OTOH, in the UK they not only televises the weekly dance competition (BBC1 on Saturday night), they actually do a live half-hour recap and discussion show five days a week in prime time (on BBC2). They take their ballroom dancing seriously over there, I tells ya.
This week’s results show has aired on the East coast.
I was surprised – but not very – to see Tatum go. It’s clear P has some kind of weird clacque thing going on – I gues Wile E’s View vote kicked in – but hope that goes away soon, because he needs to go home. Now.
Loved watching the recap of last night’s performances – I was really struck by the huge smile Stacy had as she was dancing, she seemed to be having the most fun. I may have to vote twice for Jerry next week and once for her.
Not that I would vote on anything other than the merits of people’s performances, of course.
You know sometimes how movement on TV or in real life synchronizes with music playing on the radio?
The music playing for the professional dancers who did the Lindy Hop was just the opposite. Weird.
No, he’s not. If he were trying, he’d wear the dance shoes and lose the baseball cap. Right now, I’m not sure what he’s trying to do, but it looks rude and disrespectful to me. It’s also impractical. In ballroom dancing, you’re supposed to be able to glide smoothly across the floor. Sneakers (I assume he’s wearing some variation on sneakers) are supposed to stop you doing that. Dressing and acting the way he has is about as respectful as turning up at a rap competition in full country western gear complete with cowboy boots and foot long fringes on your sleeves. “Quit dissin’ my peeps!” says this Brit. (That goes out to my homies in Brighton and Blackpool* and the folks gettin’ by on the mean streets of Rochdale.)
Master P aside, I’m enjoying the show. I didn’t expect to like Stacy, but she’s got the moves as well as the attitude, and Jerry Rice was another pleasant surprise. I agree Lisa Rinna’s lips are scary (they look artificially inflated, as if she has some sort of infection to me), but it was nice to see her husband in the audience applauding for her and not just because Harry Hamlin’s a nice looking man.
I have two grave concerns.
One: Master P is somehow going to make it all the way to the finel instead of being kicked off next week, a week later than he deserved.
Two: The gentleman I’ve been seeing is now talking about wearing a baseball cap to Monday night’s dance practice. Fellow Dopers, I throw myself at your feet, begging for mercy! I’ll even find accomodations for any of you willing to come here and stage an intervention! Please? Pretty please?!
By the way, we got sucked into watching the entire awards show last night. An hour is way too long for it; even half an hour’s pushing it. There’s also no way I’m willing to believe names were drawn at random when they announced who was staying.

*Blackpool is a deliberate in joke, if I need to explain it. It’s also where my father misspent large portions of his youth trying to meet girls.
I haven’t been following the show, but just to interject…you dance better when you’re wearing the appropriate costume. Simple as that. I don’t know why…just a psychological thing I guess. But picture Fred and Ginger floating around in the tuxedo and the fabulous satin gown. The clothing makes you float better! Now try to picture them in say, a basketball uniform and capri pants. It’s just not gonna work! You jitterbug better in a poodle skirt. You waltz better in a Southern Belle gown, you two-step better in cowboy boots and you “street dance” better in cargo pants. It just “is.”
I cannot believe they showed all of the dances again in their entirety. Thank goodness for Tivo.
I had a feeling that Master P would garner enough sympathy votes to continue on. Personally, I thought O’Neal’s low numbers were partially due to her costume. The color was extremely unflattering and the cut made her look larger than she is.
I don’t like how they have different sexes competing against each other. It doesn’t put them on a level playing field. I think they should pit women against each other one season then pit the men against each other in the next.
I noted with amusement that they could show all the dances, plus bits of intro blather, plus the judges revealing their scores, plus a few bits of amusing dancer’s reactions…all in 30 minutes. No, the original hour and a half running time wasn’t padded…
As gratuitous as it was, I appreciated it because my VCR worked on Friday.
Jerry Rice is adorable. I feel better about having liked him when he was a 49’er.
Master P was better than last week. Not good. Not even ok. Still definitely in the realm of bad and barely showing up. But better than last week. (Of course, last week, his partner may as well have been dancing with a hat rack.) He needs to go.
Of course, so did Tatum - who wasn’t going to make it to the end, but at least should have lasted longer than Master P. Actually, I didn’t like her, nor Lisa Rinna (though their costumes resemble stripper-wear, it isn’t actually a strip club), nor Tia’s dance. Maybe next week.
I don’t watch American Idol - dos it work this way, too? Performance then reveal shows with a ton of weird unnecessary filler?
Welcome to week 3.
Does anyone know why George did the tango and Lisa did the jive?
And, damn, much as I love Jerry Rice, I think I’m going to have to vote for Drew and Stacy this week.
I presume the producers cut George some slack there; I’m pretty sure they figured he wasn’t up to the moves required for the jive.
Both dances, I think, were extremely difficult to carry off well, the jive requiring considerable athleticism and the tango highly stylized, unnatural movements. With that in mind here are my entirely subjective and unfair rankings for week three:
Jive:
- Drew 2. Lisa 3. Jerry 4. Master P.
Lachey did the best dance of the night, IMO; loose yet precise, and his footwork was fab. Ms. Rinna turned in a fairly credible performance as well, I was able to pay more attention to her routine this week as she had clearly toned down the color of THOSE LIPS a bit. Rice’s routine was a complete shambles; yeah, he’s charming, but he’s gotta get his body under better control. I also think that for this particular style, the large size difference vs. his partner worked against against him.
Finally, Man-child P. showed some slight signs of effort, but way too, little way too late. I feel awful for perky little Ashley, who must feel like she’s been throwing herself repeatedly against a brick wall the past several weeks.
Tango:
- Stacy 2. Tia 3. George 4. Giselle
Well, bit of a shock there as going in I thought for sure Giselle would be the one to beat. Instead, she (as, IMO, the judges correctly assessed) looked strangely stiff throughout, and when she did the head turns it looked like her noggin was going to tumble off her shoulders. Stacy still rules; although her performance was a bit shakier than last week’s, damn she’s a fine lookin’ bird. Tia Carrere did her best routine so far, but I still don’t see her making it to the end. Hamilton, while not much on the dance moves, was absolutely hilarious; loved the pencil 'stache and the way he nailed the cemera with his hat at the end.
Who gets voted off tomorrow? If it ain’t P, I’ll eat my (and P and Ashley’s) hats.
George doing the Tango and Lisa doing the Jive. I think that they tried to give George a break and not ask him to do the more vigorous jive. I’d guess that they may have asked for volunteers from the ladies to trade for the jive, if that’s the case Lisa gets extra points for that. She did very well at it, too, I was impressed. It’s also kind of sweet to see her husband in the audience rooting for her every week and looking relieved and happy when she gets a good score. She got a good laugh when she said she did better because of her girsl and reached inside her top and said “no not these “girls”, these girls” and pulled out a picture of her kids.
I actually think Tia did better than Stacey on the Tango. I think Tia is just more suited to it, she has the right look for it. I have also been impressed with Tia on her “interviews”, she doesn’t come off as an egotistical nutjob coughTatumcough and isn’t little ditzy either. She’s either a very smart and talented actress that knows not to come off like a diva or she really is just a nice person.
If P doesn’t get voted off tomorrow then there is no justice in this world. Everyone did pretty well tonight, I don’t think Jerry was as bad as they scored him, but P just couldn’t keep up. Yeah, he probably made more of an effort this week but I still don’t think he’s trying that hard. Look how quick he was on his feet when he played basketball. No one else deserves to go this week. My theory is that people aren’t voting for P, they’re voting for Ashley she’s so sweet and cute you feel sorry for her and want to keep her around.
