"Dancing with the Stars," Season Two

It looked to me like Jerry wasn’t dancing with his whole body. I know that sounds strange, but when his feet were moving, his upper body wasn’t, and when his upper body danced, his legs were stiff.

I wondered if maybe they give the dancers their choice of dances. Tango is a dance that requires a strong lead, while Jive doesn’t require much in the way of a lead. Therefore most women would prefer the Tango because the professional male dancers would have the hardest part. The Jive requires more precision.

El Kabong – I really enjoy reading your analyses of the dancers – you really nailed it.

That was my take too StGermain.

And I’m on board with El Kabong’s analysis. The judges were spot on with their critique of Stacy, but she still nailed it.

I think the professional I’m most impressed with is Edyta (no idea if I’m spelling that right). Not only is she an exceptional dancer (they all are, of course), but she manages to choreograph routines that she and George can do together without him looking like a 100 year old man trying to keep up. Very impressive. George’s campaigning was pretty funny too.

“I’m George Hamilton, do you know who that is?”
“Uh… no?”

My wife is curious on the marital/relationship statuses of Drew and Cheryl. She thinks they look pretty friendly (and really cute) together. :dubious:

Drew is married to a choreographer (really) from Cincinnati. I think they attend the School for Creative and Performing Arts together.

As far as the dancing goes, I will reiterate my criticism of having males compete against females and then doing different dances. It’s a bit like comparing apples to oranges.

I don’t know the rules, but I’m wondering if each couple gets to choose their dance. Now most women celebrities would choose the tango because it’s a woman’s dance and they want to showcase their sexuality. But Rinna does not ooze sexuality in the way that Tia and Giselle do. The Jive suited her much better and it showed.

Jerry Rice, on the other hand, should have chosen the tango IMO. I think his height would have worked to his advantage then. It’s painful to watch a tall, stocky man dance the Jive. Though, to be honest, I thought he’d do much better on The Jive than he did. He seemed very, very tight and out of rhythm. He definitely wasn’t feeling the music.

Tia did great. I can’t decide whether her Russian partner, Maksim, is incredibly sexy or incredibly arrogant. He’s a puzzle. And good for her for losing 20 pounds. She’s a beautiful woman no matter what.

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa. I try hard to put aside my petty irrational contempt for her but I just can’t. She’s a nice enough lady, I suppose, and very spunky. It’s so wrong of me to hate her for her lips. She does have an incredible body, FWIW. But I think she’ll be next to go after Jorge Hamilton. She’s an athlete, no doubt, but not very graceful. She’d be better suited in a cheerleading competition.

Drew - the poor guy. I can’t look at him without thinking about his better looking older brother. Too bad he isn’t about 6 inches taller…nonetheless, the dude can dance and he’s always fun to watch. He and his partner make cute partners. He’s from Cincinnati so I’m pulling for him. (Hey, we need a winner in this town.)

George - well, he just oozes charm. And it’s silly of me not to have realized that he has Argentinian blood in him. That would somewhat explain the perpetual tanned look, though why he chose such an anglo-saxon name is beyond me. He’d be far sexier if he were Antonio Carrera or something like that. In any event, he’s exhausted his talents, I think, and will be the next to go.

Stacy is just breathtakingly beautiful and graceful and I could watch her and Tony dance all night. I just cannot wrap my mind around the fact that she used to be a wrestler.

Giselle - I think she consistently performs well and she’s immensely likeable. I’m jealous of her legs.

**Master P ** - I don’t know why Len had to be so freaking mean to him. It was obvious the dude sucked. Instead of lambasting him, he should have held his tongue so he could part with dignity. With the judge being so openly brutal to him (“It’s time for you and this show to part company.”), it made me feel really sorry for him. ARGH! Now people will undoubtedly be motivated to give him another round of pity votes to make up for Len’s cruelty. Which would be bad because he is, without a doubt, the first black boy I’ve ever seen who has zero rhythm.

I do give him bonus points for having the worst excuse EVER! Even better than Tatum’s “I’m just an actress.” whine. He sucked, folks, because his grandma’s sister died.

I’m so happy seeing George do so well. I have a friend who was lucky enough to have lunch with him once, and she reports that he really is that charming and wonderful in person – as she described it, she had to revise her already perfect opinion of him upwards. He is just having so much fun, and Edyta is doing a wonderful job of choreographing routines where he can have fun in spite of his injuries. He’s doing far better than I expected.

P has just become an embarrassment to the whole competition, though. I really hope he didn’t get a bunch of pity votes; it’s becoming actively painful to watch him lumber around like a rhythm-less elephant. I was a little shocked to see that he’s actually fairly thin; those huge clothes he wears make him look so heavy, and yet he really can be very light on his feet, as witness his behavior on the basketball court. Poor Ashly. He said he keeps making her smile, so “it’s all good,” but that wasn’t a smile on her face, it was yet another “What the F***???” grimace.

I’m enjoying the whole show far more than I should, I must say.

Right with ya on that. Len’s a poster boy for constipation sometimes. I wouldn’t give him too much of a chance if he ever shows up in P’s neighborhood in his nice Savile Row suit.

Sorry, quote should be attributed to PunditLisa.

NO NO NO!!! How could P Kelly not be eliminated??

StG

I think it was like Giselle said–journalists, especially those who are mid-40s–don’t have a fan base. I really liked her and am sorry to see her go. She handled it beautifully.

Holy crap, looks like it’s hat for dinner. Who the bloody hell is voting for that mook?!?

Oh, well, on the bright side, guess we’ll get to see Len go all apoplectic again next week. Jeepers.

Giselle didn’t have the fan base – plus she just didn’t dance all that well last night.

Effin’ P – unbelievable. How much longer can he last?

And the breakdancing thing was just stupid. Different audience, people!

Ignoring the idiotic result, I found two things interesting:
First, when the announcer made a point of saying (during the Thursday show) that the results would begin being revealed ‘during the first half hour’ of the results show.

Second, when he announced tonight that ‘this was the last time you’d be able to see all the dances in their entirety’ during the results shows.
It seems obvious that they’ve had people reading the various boards – The audience threatens to skip the useless first hour of the results show? Whoops, gotta head that off. The audience threatens to skip the bloated competition show? Whoops, more preemptive maneuvers.

It’s all about the commercials. Longer shows = more commericals…but only if they can deliver enough eyeballs.

Bumpy bumpty.
Because the next episode is on tonight, right in front of 24.

Wasted bump – I think you were looking at Skating with Celebrities.

Shoot. You’re right. :smack:

Well, they both have semi-celebs, right?

That’s the one thing I didn’t mind at all. I like watching people dance. Really well done and well choreographed breakdancing is cool to watch for much the same reason that well done, well choreographed ballroom is.

But, my gosh. He needs to go. Now. The scoring system is stupid. It needed fixing last year. They had months to change it into something that didn’t suck and did nothing. I don’t understand what ABC is thinking - they cannot possibly be getting more viewers by having him on than they do by dropping him.

Also, the “they’re staying” announcements. They should have been spread evenly throughout the evening. Two at the beginning, then nothing until the last three minutes didn’t work. They should have announced one or two before or after every commercial break. This way was stupid.

Tatum O’Neal is doing commentary for Entertainment Tonight.

But hey, she’s got an Academy Award ®.

This is very strange. Apparently the DFW market ABC station isn’t going to show the results show on Friday. The TWoP person I learned this from thought it was due to the appearance by the Pussycat Dolls. WTH? Dallas isn’t exactly Leftytown USA but we’re not usually Scary Conservative. Not to mention that I thought I remember that horrible “singing” group on Dick Clark’s Moderately Rockin’ New Year’s Eve. I’m confused. >_<

Sigh

I’m gonna have to jump on the Drew Lachey bandwagon. I still like Jerry, but he’s getting stomped (sic) by the two ringers, Stacey and Drew.

And Drew – the “Thriller” hand movements in the middle – swoon. They’re good.
