I did 11 years active, 3 reserve. Started as “E” and got out as “O”, and since '85 I’ve worked for the Navy as a civ. Had I not married, I likely would have stayed in till retirement. It was great for me - lots of opportunities to travel, meet all sorts of folks, and do things I would never have considered otherwise - like taking flying lessons. Should my daughter want to serve, I’d be thrilled for her.
Bah! Post count means nothing! It’s registration date that is important. I look at most of your registration dates, and what do I see? Aug 2000, or Jan 2000. Wussies. Been here since good ol’ 1999. That’s right, 1999. Fear me!
that’s awesome, fcm. out of curiousity, are the enlistee/officer ranks the same as in the army?
army:
enlistee:
private
private E2
private first class

corporal
seargent
and then all the different types of seargents that I can never get straight. I’ll just say NCO.

1st liutenent
(from here on I’m not sure if i got the order straight)
captain
liutenent major (is that a rank? I gotta get back to studying them)
major
Liutenant Colonel
Colonel
Liutenant General
(and I’m nhot sure about the other General ranks, but I’ll give it a try)
Brigidier General
something General
Master Genera(possibly?)
Nope:
seaman/airman recruit
seaman/airman apprentice
seaman/airman
petty officer third class
petty officer second class
petty officer first class
chief petty officer
senior chief petty officer
master chief petty officer
ensign
lieutenant junior grade
lieutenant
lieutanant commander
commander
captain
rear admiral (lower)
rear admiral (upper)
vice admiral

I was a second class when I went over to the dark side, and I got out as a lieutenant
