Daniel Craig told to "Shut Up" & stop bashing Bond films.

I just watched Casino Royale (2006) and I thought it was one of the very best Bond films. Perhaps even the second best after Goldfinger (1964).

I know most people won’t remember Goldfinger as being all that great. It may just be my own personal affection for Sean Connery.

IMDB ratings are not the last word as to the quality of a film. But Casino Royale was rated 8.0 which is an extremely high ratings. Both Gold Finger and Skyfall were rated 7.8.

I think most male actors would feel that playing Bond is just about as good as it gets. I think it’s sad to learn of him bashing the hand that feeds him. I would imagine that hand feeds him very well too.

It does seem a tad ungrateful, but he’s entitled to his opinion. He wouldn’t be the first pop-culture success who felt constrained by his best-known gig (Conan Doyle and Nimoy also spring to mind).

Casino Royale was fantastic; Skyfall pretty good and Quantum of Solace meh, IMHO. I hope Spectre will at least be in Skyfall territory.

Hey, I thought he was great in Cowboys Vs. Aliens.

These kind of remarks during the publicity phase of a movie release sometimes tie back to a contract dispute. He may not want to spend the time publicizing the movie, or there might be some kind of compensation disagreement. Or yes, he could just be burning his bridges behind him.

Hmmm, I don’t think that he is the first actor to say they were done with Bond. And I assume that he won’t be the last.

I remember reading a really painful promotional interview for “Cowboys and Aliens” with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig. It was the cover story for Entertainment Weekly and Craig couldn’t even stay civil with the interviewer. If I recall correctly, he stormed out of the interview when his wife was mentioned in passing. I think he simply can’t deal with the contractually mandated promotional tours that come along with starring in these blockbusters.

That’s a real shame because some of the other Bond actors have been terrible. Roger Moore almost ruined the entire series for me.

But Daniel Craig was a pretty decent Bond. However, it’s almost a certainty he won’t be playing Bond again. He may even have trouble finding any work in Hollywood despite his talent.

That kid from Two and a Half Men comes to mind. The people who make movies and TV really don’t seem to want to pay people who badmouth the product. And why would they?

What does he say that’s so bad? It seemed like an honest interview about how he felt about the playing the part and doing the work but I don’t see a single thing where he bashes the franchise/movie or bites the hand that feeds him. I think a lot of actors don’t even want to think about doing it again for a while after finishing a massive intense project.

It’s time for Idris Elba anyway.

Completely agreed. Did he say the series is bad, that the movie is bad, that the team was bad? No.

He just finished a shoot which resulted in an injury that required knee surgery (back filming within weeks) and multiple reshoots into just before release.

“Oh gosh. That was fun! Let’s do it again!”

It was just the Chicago Marathon yesterday. I have great respect for the event, for how it is run, for the participants, and for all who help make it happen. Years ago when I [del]crossed[/del] stumbled past the finish line though all I could say was “Good. I can stop running now.”

I don’t know who that is but they probably take a break for a while before casting anyone else. Craig did such a good job reimaging Bond it would probably be good to wait before asking the public to accept a brand new one very soon.

The three Bond movies he’s done were wretched dreck, little reason to believe this will be any good.

More of a Roger Moore fan are you?

Not to mention that guy who played the kid’s uncle… what was his name again?

He would make a terrible Bond!

Total agreement.

Let’s all drop this, otherwise the thread will devolve into a “which movies are best” thread.

And, you’re wrong.

He’s a British actor with the skill and gravitas to play the “blunt instrument” Bond that Connery’s and Craig’s Bonds are, but has the cultured class to be a suave Bond, comfortable in a Casino or a lady’s bed. He’s really good in Luther, a British crime show.

Unfortunately, he has a sufeit of melanin, which would cause a backlash in some markets. I hope the producers put that aside and he gets chosen before he gets too old.

I have little tolerance for actors complaining about something that has benefited them literally an immeasurable amount in everyday terms. The Bond franchise turned Craig from a struggling C-list nobody into an A-list, near-household name, not to mention probably making him nine-figures rich*!* Yes, his talent earned him it as well. I remember how when he was first cast as 007 he was universally reviled, and yet when the first film came out he was universally praised as the best since Connery. So the personal cost-to-benefit ratio is off the scale no matter how you measure it.

So yes, shut up blondy*!*

Hey, Craig, suck it up Cupcake. *Most *of us hate our jobs. And we don’t even get paid millions to do them!
