Daredevil Director's Cut Reviews?

I liked the Daredevil movie better than most people here seem to have liked it, but I do think it could have been better.

I was reading the reviews of the director’s cut DVD on amazon.com. They seem to be overwhelming favorable.

I was wondering if anyone here has seen the director’s cut version and would car eto comment on it?

I too liked the DD movie, but I admit I have a very soft spot for Ol’ Hornhead, so I was inclined to be charitable.

The Director’s Cut is definitely an improvement. The added footage gives you a better picture of the Kingpin and the far-reaching effects of his power over the city. Matt and Foggy’s relationship is developed more, Matt and Elektra’s less. The net effect is that while the theatrical cut seemed like it was desperately trying to cram three stories in at once, this version feels more unified and less hurried. I still think MSJ bit off more than he could chew, but this is a better movie and shows he had a better idea of what he was doing than a lot of fans have given him credit for.

If you’re interested in some specific changes, check out the box below.

  • The love scene between Matt and Elektra is out;
  • In this version, when Matt and Elektra are making out in the rain and Matt tries to get away to change to DD, he actually leaves;
  • The scene in the confessional between Matt and the priest is out, and a couple of new scenes between them are in;
  • The coda with Bullseye in the hospital bed is now in the main part of the film;
  • Much of the spoken narration is out, while a few new passages are in.

On your third point, that scene seemed kind of essential, to me. The scenes they replaced it with had better be darned good, for purposes of developing the characters. The other changes sound acceptable or good, though.

And I rather liked the theatrical version, too, though it admittedly wasn’t as good as either Spider-man or X2.
