I saw the movies Darius Goes West tonight. Basically it is a documentary about a 15 year old (Darius) who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and his road trip with his friends across the country in an effort to raise awareness and get his wheelchair “pimped*” by MTV’s Pimp My Ride. I found the movie very moving. I loved how Darius, who had never been out of his county in Georgia, got to see and experience so much of the United States.
I showed it to a group of teens that I work with at my parish and I think it really made them aware of what some people go through and that disabilities don’t remove someone’s personhood.
Anyone else see this film? What did you think of it?
*I even forgive the positive use of the word pimp which I hate and will never accept
