This is kind of sad, but geez why in the fuck do people have to be so god damn stupid? As a motorcyclist, it gets me mad just thinking of it.

What can I say? People really are stupid. I live across the river from downtown Calgary, and I walk across the bridge and see people boating, rafting and tubing down the Bow river with no lifejackets on all the time (actually, it is the exception when I see someone wearing them). It’s a river, people, not your local swimming pool. It has undercurrents, drop-offs, and eddies, not to mention that it is made up of run-off from the mountains and will give you hypothermia in minutes. But every day in this nice weather I see tons of people lazily floating down the Bow with nothing but shorts and a t-shirt on. Even after hearing about all the drownings we’ve already had this summer.

Oh, and how about the fires started by careless smoking? What are we up to - 4 fires in 4 days?

How about deciding not to wait for help when the elvevator gets stuck http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/stories/010805/5043944.html

and don’t forget the guy who decided to slide down the trash chute from about the 10th floor and ended up crushed in the trash compactor. Yes in Calgary, are we on a roll or what?

What are you all doing up there?

I heard on the news this morning that a couple of people drowned on the river and at a lake this weekend. No PFD’s on at least one of them (and alcohol was also involved.) Preventable deaths always piss me off, especially when the people that die do stupid things that basically cause their own deaths.
(Oh, and there was a guy badly burned from having the fumes from the lacquer paint he was spraying in his basement explode. Very sad, completely preventable.)
What are we doing up here, indeed.
