Das Boot remake? Seriously?

I pronounce it somewhere in-between “boat” and “butt,” with that vaguest hint there will be an R that never comes, but my teacher was old fifty years ago and grew up when German still had full-blown dialects, not just regional accents. My daughter laughs at my pronunciation and vocabulary, so I’m no authority.

Also, I interviewed to manage moving U-505 indoors. It was used as a model for the set designers of Das Boot. Sub had sat out in Chicago weather for decades and was so rusty there was concern that it would collapse if moved, so I was kinda glad they didn’t hire me.

Pronounced “Yose-might”?

Those were both short lived attempts at TV series, 1955, 4 episodes and 1983, 5 episodes.

I still have horrid memories of Hector Elizondo saying, “Round up the usual suspects.” shudder

And he pronounced “up” as “yoop.”
