Daschle's Amusing Little Hissy-Fit Today...

Daschle had an amusing hissy-fit this morning, and now they’ve gone live to him responding to the almost immediate criticism of his hissy-fit from within his own party.

Apparently, he thought some remarks from Bush about a labour/management conflict as an attack on Senate Democrats over Iraq. When it was pointed out to him that it had nothing at all to do with Iraq, he got back up just now and refused to back down.

Daschle, you ignorant blowhard. When you screw up like that, frickin’ admit it. And, by the way, I’m sure you thought that was a soft, sincere, serious tone of voice you were using, but it sounded more like an elementary school teacher whispering a story before nap time.

Bush isn’t the one politicizing this, Daschle is. If he figured he could act all indignant about it and fool people into thinking it was Bush politicizing the issues, he was wrong, because he sure didn’t fool me. And for cryin’ out loud Mr. Daschle, you wanna politicize politicization, at least pick an accurate example. A misguided hissy-fit is just embarassing you.

Tom Daschle is a flea. He doesn’t give a damn about his country, he just wants to act like a jerk. Hopefully, his constituants will notice what a fool he is, and give him the heave ho. I find it amusing that he is so concerned about “getting UN approval” to take out Saddam Hussein-yet 4 years ago, he was all for it! A liar and a hypocrite, with no redeeeming features.

What a load of horseshit. Guess wingnuts don’t much care for someone shoving it right back in their faces. UnAmerican I think you call it.

Say what you will about Dashel’s motivations – and I think much of it has to do with Gore finally managing to light a fire under their collective Democratic asses with his speech – but the fact of the matter, Babybush has used the whole Saddam sham to cover up for his own failings and the sorry state of the nation – not to mention his Empire-building scheme. Fuck him and the ones that appointed him.

Here’s hoping the Democrat sniping has only just begun.

RexDart, care to provide a cite?

Or was this your hissy-fit?

Ooooh, little Tommy Daschle was simply so upset! Stamped his little foot and threw a hissy fit! That’s the trouble with Democrats, they’re so nelly

Yeah, right, Butch. You tell 'em.

The spin doctors who specialize in rendering political blunders non-operational (or, Team Bush) are rushing to insist that the words “more interested in special interests…than America’s security” dont mean what they clearly mean.

Of course, context makes a difference. The fact that the main thrust of Our Leader’s remarks had to do with the Homeland Security Bill, and not directly connected to the Iraq Stampede is certainly relevent.

It changes the insult from vile to merely repulsive.

Over the last several days, it is becoming clear that the Pubbies don’t have the nerve yet to directly accuse the Dumbocrats of “soft” patriotism. But they are perfectly willing to back into it in a deniable fashion, the off-handed innuendo, etc. And if they see that causes a twitch upward in the polls, they will stick thier toe in a bit deeper.

There is no chance, none, that Boy George was set up in front of an audience with a speech that was less than thoroughly examined. Every phrase, every word. His handlers knew exactly what they were implying. It was measured, deniable, and implies what they don’t yet dare say.

Daschle’s speech was a shot across the bow, and I say well done, Sir, well done, but next time aim for the mainmast!

Does someone have a cite for what exactly Daschle’s position was on Iraq four years ago? I don’t remember a military buildup like Bush is doing at all, and war seems much more likely now that before. That said, I’m not going to say “things were different then” for partisan reasons. Can anyone fill me in?

Here’s a link for today’s political fireworks:

If you’d seen Daschle’s speech, you wouldn’t be applauding it. He gave an admonition to Bush in this ridiculous tone of voice, hushed and dopey. It was so phony, and typical of Daschle. He has never had a good political speaking voice, I don’t know how he’s survived in the Clinton era, with oratory skill of increasing importance.

And again, the context does matter, as far as Daschle had the context dead wrong. Bush’s remark that the Senate is dragging it’s feet over homeland security issues could be interpreted by Dashle as an attack on his leadership, sure. He could respond to that. But that isn’t what he did. He took it out of context as an attack on his Iraq positions. The fact that he gave a speech that was both dopey and just plain wrong on the facts of the remark is what makes his indignant hissy-fit so amusing, IMHO. Then he tries to cover for his mistake in a second hissy-fit in the afternoon, refusing to acknowledge that he’d missed the point of Bush’s remark, that Iraq wasn’t involved.

BTW, RedFury, I am not a Republican, don’t imply that I am. I have stated on numerous occasions that I am a libertarian. I can mock people on either side of the aisle, Daschle just makes a tempting target once again with today’s stuff. His ability to stick strictly to talking points in irrelevant situations has always amazed me, as well. You’d think he was a Presidential staffer, not a Senator. Now that he goes off and does his own thing and been reamed for it, perhaps we’ve found out why he generally doesn’t stray too far from the party script.

Precisely. Let’s cut through the chase and let the American public know exactly what’s at stake. Namely WW-III

It literally makes me ill that Babybush talks about killing human beings with the same regard he’d give a mosquito. All for his/their own deranged and self-promoting agenda. Talk about a time for leadership when there’s none to be found. A halfwit running the greatest power on earth and hardly anyone standing up to him. And when they try, like Gore and Dashle just did, the best spin machine ever built, the ones that has people like the posters above eating out of their hands, goes into high gear to squash all dissent by ridicule and slander.

Yeah, I admit to sounding a bit shrill, maybe it’s because that whole nelly things is contagious. I sure hope so.

Because of course, becoming impassioned about an issue, especially when our president is interested in starting war, is unforgivable. It doesn’t play well on TV…

Oh, nonsense! This is not the only time the Bushistas have tried to sidle up to the implication of “soft” patriotism on the part of the Dems.

George doesn’t “wing it”. His speech is written, combed over and vetted. The sideways innuendo as written is perfectly clear in its intent, whether the context is war, Homeland Security, or Tom Daschle’s momma. It was carefully crafted to deliver as much venom as possible and leave as few fingerprints. It is nonetheless transparent to the meanest intelligence.

Mr. D was insulted and pissed-off, and he had every right to be.

Bravo, elucidator, you’re right on target. Bush’s speechwriters stopped just short of calling Democrats (or Democrats who won’t roll over and take it in the ass) un-American. I’d bet that in the sixties the prez was one of those twits that drove around with bumper stickers saying “America, Love It Or Leave It,” implying that you don’t belong if you don’t agree with him. Driving around, that is, when he was sober enough to see the road.

And RexDart, unless you’re a recent British immigrant, get over the thought that spelling labor with a “u” gives you class. It just shows that you didn’t show up enough for class when it might have done you some good.

The context of Bush’s remark was indeed the Homeland Security bill, but the comment seemed rancorous, at least to me:

It’s not quite calling the Senate leadership traitors, but it’s a paper-thin step away. If you were in the leadership of the Senate, wouldn’t you be pissed at characterization?

[hijack]Pardon the double/triple/quadruple-postings, but don’t blame me – ten minutes and a number of disconnects went by before my post/s got through.

It’s almost impossible to post here anymore. SDMB members have got to be the most loyal ones on the Internet.

But this is ridiculous.</hijack>

And nobody knows “spin” better’n you, eh, Lucy?

the president was wrong to suggest that someones rightful disagreement with a provision of the homeland secyrity bill as equivalent to “not caring about national security”. It was a childish, devisive, propagandist statement that he obviously (as happens so often with this retard) did not THINK COMPLETELY THROUGH before opening his spastic prone mouth.
Daschle was completly right to say what he did. Bush and his pack of goons have been over stepping a lot of the common bounds of decency lately and it is about time people started calling him on it.

You’ve got to be freaking kidding me! If not, how do you explain your president?

PS-Money, corruption, lies, fraud, and the Supremes notwithstanding of course.

Remarks aside, I thought how he said it was hilarious!

Am I the only one who thought he was trying to do a bad Al Pacino impression?

Funny little guy.
