Could this be changed whenever we upgrade to the next version of vB? (Since we probably won’t be able to do it before then.) If I’m trying to find a thread from, say July 2002, on a subject that comes up fairly often, like Iraq, I’ve got no way to limit my searches to just that time period, so I’ve gotta click through a kajillion threads until I find the exact one I’m looking for.
Not really. They are displayed in posting date order if you so choose.
Yeah, I know, but if I get 15 pages of results, I’ve got to click through all those pages until I get to the ones in the right time period, and then I can try to find the specific thread I’m looking for.
Agreed, a date range would be easier, but it’s only 7 or 8 clicks (without moving your mouse even) to page 17 where 1 July 2002 is.
If you have an idea that it’s going to appear there, otherwise, you’re liable to overshoot it, or undershoot it. If the board’s acting wonky, or your connection’s crappy, that adds a lot of time in my experience. Not to mention, if the only key word you can remember is one that happened to appear in a lot of threads in a given month, you can still have a ton of pages to sift through, once you get to the right time frame.
Oh, and another way it would come in handy is if the only term you can remember for certain that would have appeared in the is something too short for the search engine (like EMP), so you have to search on the username of someone who you know posted to that thread, you end up having to dig through every post they made in that forum, which can give you dozens of pages, even within a single month.
