Dave Chappelle says, "Later, bitches."

CNN story

Ah, well. You made us laugh our asses off for two seasons, Dave.

I’m sad.

Alas, they may as well go out on top.

Actually, Charlie Murphy said the show is over, not Dave Chappelle. While he may be right, I’m waiting to hear it from Comedy Central, or Chappelle himself.

I don’t believe this- not b/c I really wanted season 3, but b/c Chappelle was supposed to get 50 million in a matter of years, right?!

Well, he did get 15 million from dvd sales didn’t he? Forbes.com said so I think…

I mean he’s a not-very-well known actor who got paid 1 million for season 1. What about his 50 million?! What about it? I WANT HIM TO HAVE 50 MILLION DOLLARS. :frowning:

I’ve accepted many things at face value: that Michael Jackson may not be guilty, that Martin Luther King was no saint, that Mr. T was never really a badass, that Tupac and Biggie Smalls faked their deaths to fight crime across America, that pimpin’ really ain’t easy. But This I Refuse To Believe.

La la la la la la la la la la la la I can’t heeeeear youuuuu la la la la la la la la.

Forget the money. What about the episodes that were all but done for season 3?

Just what I was thinking. Charlie Murphy is a lot of things, but a reliable news source? I don’t know. Not after his stories about Prince and Rick James.

Let’s hope this isn’t the case, but more so hope that Dave gets his life sorted out while he’s away. Must have had a lot of pressure on him to go and get away like he’s done.

Yeah, I mean part of the season is completed already

and

50 MILLION DOLLARS
Can you do math? The two add up…

What amuses me is that he went to South Africa. I know Apartheid is officially over and done with, but of all the world’s vacation spots SA doesn’t exactly strike me as a good place to trek.

Maybe there are facts I’m missing.

If you have money, and I think we can assume that Dave has money, SA has some incredible places to hang.

Four thumbs down!

In the TIME magazine article that came out a while ago, Dave explained that a Muslim friend of his lives there and he was staying with him. As he explains it, it wasn’t a vacation as much as a spiritual retreat.

Wasn’t he in a drug treatment center there? Maybe it had a really good reputation, or he knew one of the doctors.

Boo to this news! Also, what about those season three episodes? I have to believe they’ll come out in some form eventually, Comedy Central would be an idiot not to show them.

He swears it wasn’t drug-related.

It’s possible the sketches already completed will be released directly to DVD.

Yeah, $50 million is a lot of money, but if he needed to stop, I respect him for doing so rather than phoning it in. I don’t know what was going on with him, but it must have been pretty bad, so I’m glad he was able to do the right thing for himself. That said, I hope he feels better soon and makes many more seasons of Chappelle’s Show. I’ll miss his show.

I’m relieved. I expected this thread to detail the news of Dave’s death. While he’s alive, there’s always the chance of more Dave, in some manner or other.

Oh, there’s the silver lining!

Maybe the pressure just got to him? Seems like a very human reaction to me. He created some great shows so perhaps he just needs a break.

It could be a complete swerve, too. But it’s all pretty elaborate for a big hoax. If it’s really over I’ll be very disappointed.
