Yep, this is the 14th season since O’s owner Peter Angelos, for reasons best understood only by himself, fired Dave Johnson as his manager after the 1997 season.
The O’s then finished under .500 in 1998.
And in 1999. And in 2000. And ever since.
Right now, they’re 46-72, which means they’d need to have a 35-9 finishing kick to reach .500. That would be a pretty awesome finish even for a very good team, and the Orioles are one of the worst teams in baseball. So even though a winning season isn’t yet arithmetically impossible for them, it’s so unlikely as to make no difference. The Curse wins out again.
