I’m drinking beer and surfing YouTube tonight. Found this upload of an album that takes me back to a great time in my life. I always thought it under appreciated. Anyone else remember it?
David and David, Boomtown (1986)
Yep. Loved that song, and the rest of the album was pretty good too. Pretty sure I still have the CD filed away somewhere.
I had Boomtown back when it came out and used to listen to it a lot. I thought it was great but I haven’t heard it in years. The cassette tape is long gone.
So I’m not the only one that remembers and liked that title track. It is played every once in a while on an independent radio station here and if I happen to catch it, maybe every couple of years probably, I’ll sit in the car until it is over.
Had it on cassette way back when. Really liked the 2nd song too - Swallowed by the Cracks.
Loved that song and that cassette tape (originally and lost somewhere along the line). About a year ago a found the cd at a goodwill. It’s a great album. (CD, whatever). Damn! Now I’ll have to go digging around looking for it.
I had it on a cassette when it first came out and just recently got back into it. I have it favorited on Pandora and on Spotify. It’s not hard to find if you want to hear it again.
Love that song. One of the Davids was part of the gang that Sheryl Crow took up with that led to her album Tuesday Night Music Club, which was named after the group of friends…a non-music member was the guy who wrote Leaving Las Vegas. Coincidence? Hardly
As a counterpoint, I remember the song, and didn’t like it.
(Was it really '86? Wow. Seemed more recent.)
One second, they’re lapping up heaps of critical and commercial praise. The next, it’s already over (at least as a duo). Such is the music biz.
I, too, thought it was a great song. They had a lot of fabulous one-hit wonders in the '80’s.
Loved that album. Used to play tracks from it on my radio show whenever I could. Someone had vandalized the cover of our station library copy with a word balloon to the effect of “What’s that on the floor?”
“Being Alone Together” was always my favorite track.
Jesus I hate that 80s drum sound. Bugs the stuffing outta me. Synth sound too. Bah. I was just thinking about how different that song would sound if recorded today.
I do like the song as a song tho.
I loved that song when I first heard it and it was getting a lot of airplay. Being broke teenagers at the time my then girlfriend shop lifted a copy of it to give me as a gift. (I think she still feels guilty.)
The rest of the album was pretty good too. About a month ago I put the CD for the first time in years while I was puttering around the house.
