About a month ago, BBC America aired commercials for Bowie at the Beeb. Does anyone know the name of the song of which Bowie sings a snippet during the commercial?
BBC America?? wtf is that?
I did see it once and can’t for the life of me remember the song, however I’ve been wandering around for the past couple of weeks with a Bowie lyric occasionally running round my head so maybe that was it…
‘Time’ from the ‘Aladin Sane’ album
“Time, he flexes like a whore
Falls wanking to the floor, etc…”
Probably not it but it’s in my head for a reason. If no one else posts the answer and I catch it again, I’ll let you know.
<pssst> The BBC don’t have commercials </pssst>
I saw that concert on BBCA, in fact, I saw it about 3 times, and I even decided that I have better hair than Bowie does, so I’m growing it out to be as long as his was in that show. The concert was great, the best I’ve heard from Bowie in many years, but I was most impressed by his band, especially the two hot girls singing backup and doing percussion. Hot hot hot.
I’ve seen the commercials and I believe they have several versions with different songs. I’ll keep an eye out for it, but if you have more clues, let me know.
Does anyone know when he got false teeth?
I also saw the concert, and could quite probably name the song if you provided a couple lyrics (hint hint).
I thought that Bowie carried the band as far as he could, but ultimately failed in his attempt to sound really, really good. The backup singers were ok, in a Pink Floydian way, but how the heck do you take the signature guitar riff out of “I’m Afraid of Americans” and expect it to not suck?
BTW, the cd set “Bowie at the BEEB” is absolutely fantastic, especially if you throw away the bonus cd of the concert in question. Hearing Bowie saying things like “I haven’t performed this song before because me mum thinks the lyrics are dirty” is just entertaining. And hearing his full voice belting out tunes like “Amsterdam” is just amazing.

They were only using one song, it was FAME, from his 1975 album YOUNG AMERICANS. Recently it was also covered very excellently by God Lives Underwater, and you can find it on the 15 MINUTES soundtrack.
Back home they might not, but everytime I see commercials on BBC World (a bit like the World Service, but for TV) I start to feel slightly disappointed. Then again, at least BBC Prime doesn’t have any.
Thanks, KennyDoug. Took me awhile to check this thread.
