David Hasselhoff drunk tape

It is pretty funny watching him try and eat that burger, though I do feel bad for his daughter.

I feel bad for both of them. Can’t really say I find that video funny at all.

I live in Las Vegas and when it was announced that he was leaving the show “The Producers” at the Paris Hotel/Casino, it was supposedly because of “other commitments” regarding his cheesy “America’s Who’s Got Talent?” show.

However, recent reports said he was fired for being drunk at the performances.

This tape was anything BUT funny. I feel so sorry for his daughter and his family, but at the same time, I hope this tape embarrasses him to hell and maybe wakes him up.

Yes, David Hasselhoff is a joke - but this video clip isn’t.

I might just show this clip to my psychology class next week…I don’t think I have ever seen anything more poignant and depressing than a man’s child begging dad to stay sober.

Thank you for the link.

The clip was only funny to me because a nephew of his is one of my good college friends, and the resemblance is downright eery, both looks and the drunkenness.

Poor Hoff and his family though :frowning:

Not funny. But I don’t know if anyone considered it funny anyway. I couldn’t watch the whole thing, but for the first half that I saw, I am amazed that he was such a mellow, calm drunk. Especially with his daughter ragging him. (NOTE: Yes, she definitely SHOULD be ragging him.)

This video is the 21st century version of Ye Publick Stockayde from the 17th century. I sure help it ends up helping him somehow.

What I found funny were the tags for the video.

I am also in the not funny camp. If I understand correctly he has been in recovery for alcoholism. An alcoholic who goes back to drinking usually ends up either dead or in jail unless they get back on the wagon.

It isn’t funny, even if the person in question is an actor of questionable talent.

Three years and a couple months sober and loving it.

I realize now maybe I came off looking like a jerk for my comment. I really found the image of him attempting to eat the burger that was falling apart to be funny, but alcoholism definitely is not. I really do feel bad for his daughter and hope he gets better, if only for her sake.

I find it disgusting that the tape has been made public. I’m not a fan of Hasselhoff, but everyone deserves some shred of privacy. On the other hand, if this is what it takes to make him realize how his behavior is affecting his loved ones, the public embarassment may have some benefit, although a private showing might have had the same effect.
I watched a bit of it on one of those celebrity TV shows, but I soon changed channels. It’s really pathetic that this kind of stuff is exploited to make a buck.

The thing is, pool, I knew what you meant by “funny.” It’s not funny, not in the sense that it is amusing, but it got a small, sad, uncomfortable chuckle from me.

Because it reminded me of the former friend who I went on a pub crawl with. We went back to her apartment, her stinking drunk and me tipsy (I’d done more dancing than drinking), and she fell over her exercise bike and broke her leg. That’s not when I laughed, mind you. I also didn’t laugh when I called 911, or when I had to ask a neighbor to flag down the ambulance.

But about the fiftieth time she insisted “I’M FINE! I’M FINE! AAAAUGHHHH! I’M FINE!” the surrealism of it started to sink in. And when the EMTs charged in, and she started insisting to them that she was fine, “And I’m NOT DRUNK!” while she was reeking of tequila, her ass hanging out of her sequined skirt and her leg bent at a terrifying angle, I had to turn away and laugh at the hopelessness of it. In the ambulance, I finally settled down, and apologized to the EMTs. They shrugged it off as a not uncommon reaction in a crisis, and one added that a laugher was preferable to a crier.

And that’s how the DH video seemed. “Dad? If you drink, you’re going to be fired from the show.”

“Fwoom ztes?”

“What?”

“Who says?”

His drunkenness has regressed him to the point where he seems like a child younger than she is, and she seems like a parent. I can’t help but laugh, only because I also get the “I’m fine…” vibe from him. Similarly, my friend kept insisting that she did not break her leg (“Jus’ a really bad bruise…AAAUGHH!”) and she was not drunk, against overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I wasn’t laughing at her predicament, but her reaction to it finally became ridiculous. Did I also hear DH insist that he was not drunk?

I always enjoy videos of people making fools of themselves, but I couldn’t watch more than a minute of this. It was way too depressing.

I was instantly embarassed and uncomfortable when I saw that. I was horrified that it was made public. I’m guessing his ex-wife released it, since they’re going through a reportedly nasty divorce.

My dad was a drunk and when we were kids, it went from “Hey, dad’s passed out again. Let’s put a whole bunch of hats and scarves and stuff on him for laughs” to really dangerous and embarassing.

Regardless of their actions, I think it’s absolutely disgusting that the ex-wife would do this, which not only embarasses her ex-husband, but also their children! I may be in the minority in defending these two, but as bad as Hasslehoff and Alec Baldwin may be as people, I think it’s horrible for the ex-wives to exploit their family problems in public.

Amen to that. I couldn’t even watch it all. I just don’t get enjoyment out of watching someone who has a problem that they can’t control.

I like a bit of schadenfreude as much as the next guy, but this just wasn’t funny by any means. If anything, it seems cruel and spiteful and I feel sorry for poor Dave. I understand why her daughter taped it, but why in Og’s name was this allowed to go public? That’s just beyond the pale. “The Hoff” is certainly a has-been all things considered, but there was really no need to humiliate him like this. It’s just sad, really.

That happens a lot with the children of alcoholics- they don’t have much of a childhood. Many become the family caretakers at a very young age. I knew a gal in college who used to drive to the bar to pick her mom up when she was 11 years old… :frowning:

That was very, very sad. I wouldn’t ever want my kids to see me like that (wouldn’t want to be like that in the first place, but especially not in front of my kid… talk about losing their respect). My son has seen me “giggly-tipsy” before but that’s it. He’s never seen me impaired*.

*I’m sure that I’ve been over the legal driving limit around him, but not impaired as far as speaking, walking, cooking, doing stuff that doesn’t require driving in traffic.

His daughters filmed it as a sort of intervention.

His ex-wife says he blames her for the release, which sounds likely, since they could get in a new custody battle.

I was also depressed by it and couldn’t watch it. But what this whole story reminds me again and again of is - don’t get married until you’re way more than 100% sure, and probably not even then, and definitely don’t have kids.
