David Letterman's Last Stand

The last full week of “The Late Show with David Letterman” was great. Dave’s guests have all been ‘bringing it’.

Bryan Regan’s spot was hilarious:

Norm Macdonald was great too with funny material and a touching tribute at the end:
Tom Waits was amazing:

Only next Monday and Tuesday will be regular shows, with Bill Murray, Bob Dylan (and I’m guessing Regis Philbin) as the final guests. Wednesday’s show, like Johnny Carson’s last “Tonight Show” will not have any guests but, according to the publicity, highlights and ‘surprises’.

Has anyone heard why he’s ending on Wednesday instead of Friday?

He does two shows Thursday. I bet he does not want to end by doing two full shows in one day.

Wow. I clicked the first link, then clicked a few of the youtube side of the page links, and ended up in an Andy Kaufman youtube rabbit hole, and it’s all your fault!

I think this is the link you want for Norm MacDonald.

Appears to be the same as in my original post.

Monday is Tom Hanks and Eddie Vedder. That sounds like a winner, too.

Never mind. Thanks for the correct link.

And Eddie is singing Black, one of Letterman’s favorite songs.

That was my guess, too.

OK, why have I never heard of Brian Regan before? I had to pause the video three times and wipe my eyes from laughing so hard.

Brilliant.

Tom’s song was amazing and perfect. Simple, elegant, heartfelt. I loved it.

Brian Regan is one of the most successful comedians in the world. You need to get his CD’s or watch his specials. I thought compared to his main material, that bit on Letterman was only OK.

Here is one special he did.

Maybe it’s me, but Tom Hanks looked a little shaky last night. Anybody else notice?

I noticed that, too. His hand seemed to be shaking pretty violently as he was removing the phone from the selfie-stick.

How was Eddie Vedder?

Decent, but not his best work. I think his voice has taken some punishment over the years, and he seemed to have a hard time hitting certain notes.

Also, he performed a different song than was originally planned, as I understand it. He was to have performed Black, but sang Better Man instead. I wonder if voice problems were the reason for the change.

Here’s the video.

I thought Vedder was a bit iffy, too.

Tom Hanks may have been shaky over getting the camera attached and plugged into the thing quickly. He understands that time expands on television. Notice how he says, “Stop tape” when it takes just a few seconds longer than he hoped.

I am surprised Eddie Vedder did not sing Black.
