David Niven's "streaker" comment.

A lot of “I thinks” here, but I think it was in the seventies, at the academy awards, and that the speaker was David Niven.
Anyway, While the presenter was speaking an African American man streaked the ceremony, prompting a comment from the speaker that went something like:
“That puts an end to a popular myth”.
It was funny as hell, and got a lot of media coverage.
Does anyone remember the details better than I do? I’ve been googling with no luck.
Peace,
mangeorge

The guy was white, and Niven’s comment referred to his shortcomings.

I second this version. Definitely “shortcomings” was there.

Yes. In my haste it seems I got my quips mixed up. Here’s Niven’s comment. See slide #6.
Now I have to worry over where I heard the other quip. :smack:
Gettin’ old.

I can’t decide whether or not I want to know what a “need a joke about streakers at the Oscars STAT” emergency might consist of …

I was just reading the Wiki entry of the Oscar streaker, Robert Opel. Apparently, he “was murdered during a robbery of his gallery and sex shop in San Francisco,” in 1979.

There’s some belief that Niven’s remarks (and the entire incident) were scripted. It appears that the streaker had an all access pass – something the Academy guards jealously – that he refused to account for.

Heh heh.
My haste was to get my question posted before I had to leave. A cheeseburger was calling me.
My priorities have gotten somewhat skewed in the last few years.
That’s a good thing.

A coworker says he also remembers something about a streaker dispelling a “myth”.
The myth being that black men have larger penises than the rest of us.
