Day 2 without a cigarette

I had my last cigarette at about 10am Wednesday morning. I was supposed to have quit the night before, but I went searching the house and found one that I smoked on the sly on Wednesday morning. But nothing since. I am craving a cigarette so badly right now and it would be so easy for me to jump in my car and go to the corner shop to buy a pack. I need some moral support to help me not to do it. My fiance is not terribly supportive…when I told him I was quitting, the first thing he said was ‘Yeah, right’ and then he got into an argument with me when I told him that the ashtray on our porch needs to be removed for a few weeks so I don’t think about smoking every time I go out there. He seems to think it should be really easy for me to just give up and that I should be able to do it with ppl smoking around me. It seems to be that easy for him (he’s quitting at the same time as me). He went to a bar the other night and didn’t smoke at all and that’s where he usually does most of his smoking. He rarely smoked at home.

Thank you for letting me get this out there, typing this has really helped me get over the craving for that cigarette.

Good on you for quitting! It is extremely difficult, but just know that the cravings go from unbearable to merely annoying very quickly. After three days, they should start fading away. Chew a lot of gum, that helps!

Congrats. Good luck on stopping!
Day 9 without a cigarette.

Congratulations and good luck!

What worked for me with drinking in these cases was to get in the car, start out and then decide to put off going to the bar for a while, drive around a little and then go home. But I did have to make sure to actually put it off.

Quitting cigarettes was one of the hardest, yet most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
Buy yourself something with the money you’re saving by not buying smokes. I bought this. The payments were less than I was spending on cigarettes!

5 years, 5 months, 6 days and 11 hours since my last cig.

Good luck and keep at it! hugs

Has anyone tried the Zyban pill ? A friend of mine used it and said it was so effective.

That’s really something! Keep up to good work. You can do this!

Thanks for all your good wishes, it really means a lot! Luckily, I am currently suffering from a little bit of a cold (which actually really sucks) because it makes me want to smoke just a little bit less. I think I’m doing pretty well so far and I think it takes about 72 hours for all the nicotine to leave your body, then the cravings get a little easier. Hopefully this time I will last more than a few months (4 months and 3 months on my last two attempts to quit).

It fucking sucks.

I’ve been there.

2 1/2 years ago. You can do it. Stay strong.

Well, it gets a lot easier if you can develop something like bronchial pneumonia and cough up a little blood now and then. Although I don’t recommend that method I’ll guarantee it sure can work wonders.

4 months clean here. Gum was okay, but I discovered that Tootsie Rolls were the total bomb, especially the vanilla ones; by the time you get done chewing one up, and then spend a few minutes doing twisty tongue tricks in an effort to dislodge the goo from your back teeth, you’ve forgotten all about your craving. Deep breathing exercises help, too. Good luck!

Biddee , keep us informed. All of us dragging our heels need to hear as many sucess stories as possible. I’m really cheering for you!

Cynical Gabe , after, what, 10 days, how ya doin’? I’m smokin’ as I sit here typing and I friggin’ hate it! Frankly I’m afraid of failure. I don’t want to be one of the “yeah, tried but it didn’t work out” people. Stupid I know. I need to get over myself and just take the plunge.
Anyway, good thought for both of you.

man - so no one has tried Zyban? Curious. Now about those deep-breathing exercises and tootsie-rolls - you sound confident about both tactics - do share more. Are the exercises the kind you practice when relaxed so that when you’re in a stressful situation like a nic-fit - you can relax? I think someone told me about this once but it doesn’t work for me - I wish it did though!

I’m glad someone bumped this thread. I was curious about both of them and couldn’t find the damn thread.

I’m currently down to half a pack per day and could really do with a sucess story about now.

So, How about it you two! How’r things going???

Well, I am not a smoker, but my s.o. is, and boy was it hard during those quitting times (heckuva lot easier for me, but still no picnic). Tried Zyban during one quitting and Wellbutrin during another (after nicotine gums, all the standard otc stuff) but both made the s.o. violent. Yes, violent. S.O. felt very depressed, but would punch the walls while sleeping and wake up enraged with clenched fists, and generally want to beat the tar out of anyone. Dosage adjustments didn’t help either.

Not sure of anyone else’s experience with the stuff, but from the success stories, it seems to be worth a try. Some say to start the Zyban, etc., several weeks before quitting to build up a level in the bloodstream.

I will pass on the tip about the tootsie rolls. Hopefully it will be quitting time again soon. Best of luck to you. You can do it!!!

Sorry for coming in late - but I had to stop by and give encouragement! Keep working and good luck!

Attagirl!

As somebody suggested earlier, coughing up blood is a great motivation to stop smoking. The main problem I had with quitting was that I would just get really depressed (which I had never had a problem with before). But I stuck with it and it really does get a lot easier after only about a week (I was up to over a pack a day of regular Camels).

Good luck!
