Forgive me if I’ve got my NY geography mixed up here, as I’ve never visited.
When Dad walks to NY to save Son, they pass through Pennsylvania. Why, then, do they pass in front of the Statue of Liberty, which is out in the harbor (right?). Shouldn’t they have passed behind it, never leaving what was land?
Well, a little earlier they passed the Staten Island Ferry, stuck in the ice, so it’s possible they walked up through Staten Island and then continued out onto the frozen Upper Bay. The real answer is that it was a dramatic shot and would have been used regardless of logic. As for the the direction of the giant storm surge earlier, it’s a mystery. Silly movie anyway.
