Day number three of a bad headcold

I have not showered or shaved in three days.

My pits smell like an italian sub shop (this is new). I don’t recall eating garlic of getting oil/vinegar on me, but there you have it.

Friday, I slept all day. Yesterday, I watched stuff on Netflix and iTunes. Today, I really planned on showering and getting dressed and then heading to the supermarket, but I’m still leaking fluids from my face and feel generally rotten. And so I will spend another day on my couch, strangely smelling like an italian sub shop.

Speaking of which, I have never been more hungry, yet my apartment is empty. Worst case, I can cook up some eggs with toast and cheese. Or if I really wanna get fancy, I can make some rice and defrost some steak.

I am going to use this experience as a lesson that the next time I know a friend is sick, I will offer to bring the most appetizing meal I can think of. I dream of swimming in a container of salty french fries, the salt crystals like little foot holds as I climb to see out. I can see a giant hamburger with it’s green lettuce protruding from the bun. Oh, and look, I see some yellow mustard!

I eat fast food maybe twice a year. I don’t think I can quite convey just how much I am wanting that right now. I even want the crappy, watery soda in the paper cup with ice sloshing around and that plastic-on-plastic noise the straw makes in the lid.

I just sneezed and literally got snot all over my chest and hands. I’ve now run my hands through my greasy hair in an attempt to get the snot off. Why am I sharing this?

An italian sub with chips wouldn’t be bad about now.

I feel for you. I’ve been sick since Tuesday. Made a big mistake in that I was feeling better yesterday, and did way way too much. Bought a car for cryin out loud, but, it was a get it or loss it situation (hard to find truck that I need).

Day two for me!!! I don’t smell like a sandwich yet, though. Feel better!

Dammit! I never should have come into this thread—now I’ll probably catch it from you.

Maybe a nice steamy shower would make your head feel better?

I always find getting clean, clean clothes and clean sheets help me feel better. YMMV.

I caved and took a shower and went to the store for some OJ.

I kinda miss the Italian sub smell. I really don’t know what caused that.

Ugh, sweetie and I are finally over That Thing That Everybody Got This Winter. And now it sounds like you have it. For both of us, Day Three of being a walking snot factory was where the misery really set in. You have my sympathy, and it does get better. Eventually.

I always recommend starting a pot of [previously homemade and frozen in 1 quart portions] chicken soup with plenty of noodles, little pieces of chicken, chunks of onion and carrots to heat up. Then I turn on the heated mattress pad on the bed, toss a second comforter on top and get clean pajamas ready and warmed up by putting them on the bed under the comforters. Then I go take a steamy hot shower and flush out the sinuses with my neti pot. Get out, dry off and get into clean jammies. GO and get the chicken soup, and a huge [I have a 44 oz thermal cup that 7-11 was selling for soda about 10 years ago] cup of ice water with a splash of lemon or lime juice and crawl in bed with some cheesy movie on TV and tuck in. Swill down the soup, pop a dose of guifenesin/mucinex, swill down the ice water and stay warm and comfy while watching the movie. [the ice water is to keep me from feeling overly warm.] Sleep when appropriate [or cant keep eyes open]

Sometimes I do a nice hot tea instead of the ice water.

aruvqan has an excellent treatment plan. I prefer to freeze the soup without noodles in it, and just add noodles when I reheat it. The most important thing is to get the sinuses cleaned out, it’ll make life more tolerable. The soup will also help keep the sinuses open. If you don’t make soup, then Lipton has a pretty decent dry soup which is shelf stable. Basically, it’s chicken broth and noodles, or freeze dried chicken, broth, and noodles. I think it tastes better than canned soup.

Also, even if you don’t have a cold, a heated mattress is wonderful when it’s chilly, better than an electric blanket.
