Day of the Tentacle; You can DO THAT?

So I was enjoying replaying DOTT for the umpteenth time (this time on my PSP), when I figured out that you can send the item right to Hoagie(or Laverne or Bernard) by using the item on their icon.

This whole time, for more than 12 years, I’ve been placing the items, one by one, in the Chron-o-John for the other person to pick up, one by one. It used to frustrate me so much to have to find an item, bring it allllll the way outside, bring the intended recipient to his respective Chron-o-John, rinse repeat ad infinitum…
:smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack:

It made the game about a billion times more fun to play.

Wow. It’s really strange that out of this entire post, umpteenth is the word I have the most concrete understanding of.

Wait, so you don’t need to use the john? They just included that to be sadistic? You learn something new every day.

I believe you have to use the john once, like the very first time, just to set it up the fact that you can send items to each other, but after that, yeah, you can just put the item on their icon. You’ll hear a flushing noise, and they’ll get the item.

“Ha…Ha…Ha…”

I miss that game. I tried downloading it a year ago, but can’t get it to work.

You took the words out of my mouth.

I’m disappointed yet relieved that this isn’t a hentai thread.

wait. You can play this game on the PSP. Is homebrew involved? Man, I love the Maniac Mansion games. By far my favorite games ever.

Was DOTT a DOS game? If so, try getting DOSBox and running it in that.

No, no, go straight to scummvm.org and download ScummVM. That way, you can play DOTT, Monkey Island 1, 2, and 3, Sam and Max, etc. with no issues on many platforms.

Even the PSP

I’m completely relieved that I’m not the only person who viewed this thread with that in mind.

Bah! The DS version is the way to go, heretic!

I would kill for a Wii version that used the Wiimote. Point and click heaven.

Isn’t this explained in the booklet that accompanies the game? I’m pretty sure I knew to do that. Though it’s been ten years since I played it.

As I recall the manual said this, it’s not a secret. I’ve got a re-released CD version of the game but can’t get the sound to work due to EMS memory issues and I can’t understand the instructions to get around it. Shame as it means that I’ll never get to hear the voice acting and sound effects for the game as I only had a basic speaker system when I played the game originally.

Using the ScummVM program I mentioned above, you can play your CD version of the game with full sound, improved graphics, and no issues. It is well worth looking into to enjoy this great game again. Email me if you need technical details.

Do you know the definition of homebrew? The actual definition of homebrew is a game made for a console by an amateur programmer, rather than a gaming company. I don’t have a PSP, but I’m pretty sure there’s a DOS emulator for it.

Yup. I know what homebrew is. And, in the PSP communities homebrew also covers the firmware hacks that allow you to run non Sony approved software. Basically, anything that can run unsigned is called homebrew for the PSP. To save time people just say homebrew, and other psp users know what you are talking about.

As I found out, the SCUMMVM which allows you to play Lucas Arts games on modern machines has been ported to the PSP. (A homebrew effort, if you will. And, I will.) Unfortunately, it can only be run on PSPs that have been hacked to a firmware version that allows outside software to be run. In each new version of the firmware Sony has made it more difficult to run outside software, so the newest PSPs are difficult to run stuff like this.

Anyway. I was hoping (But, didn’t hold out much chance for it) that there was a way to play DOTT on the PSP without an outside application. And, I found out there wasn’t a way to do it. Thanks for the help, though.

It works. Thank you so much.

One other quick question: How do you save your game and exit back to the desk top?
