Day Watch is the sequel to the ubercool Night Watch. You’ll have to watch the trailer via IMDB or Apple’s site as Fox’s screwed up the web page for the flick so it doesn’t load (or at least it doesn’t in Opera). Woo doggie! Does this look to be an intense film! Lot’s of trippy effects in the trailer, and the shot of the chick driving what looks to be a Mazda RX-8 along the side of a building, 10+ stories up is just freakin’ mindblowing! Then there’s the scene of the dude getting hit by the bus.
I’ve seen it in Russian with English subtitles. I liked Nightwatch, but I thought Daywatch was vastly better. Not only was the production much better, the story is deep, and actually makes sense. One scene in particular (the confrontation at the party, he said vaugely) powerfully demonstrates the ultimate depravity of evil. Music is pretty good too. Good stuff.
Nightwatch was fun but pretty nonsensical. If Daywatch holds up better that’s good.
I loved Nightwatch, and the trailer for Daywatch looks great. I really enjoy the little details, like the rider covering his horse’s eyes before busting through the wall. It all seems very gritty and dirty and connected to the real world, not like it’s taking place in some idealized version of reality. People’s teeth are bad, their clothes are dirty, and their hair is messy.
Totally looking forward to this.
Cool, that was what I was sort of hoping to hear. I’m looking forward to this - I hope the local theater release is in Russian again.
Am I the only person who read the title and expected a new Terry Pratchett novel?
I did at first, then squee’d when I realized what was trully being talked about! I loved Nightwatch, and came out thinking, “It’s too bad… Even if they make a sequel, we’ll never see it in the US.”
Woooooo!
Huh, I didn’t even realize they made movies out of these books!
Are they still making the “3rd” movie that is actually just a big budget remake of the first two?
But everyone knows the Day Watch is filled with incompetent boobs unfit to shine Commander Vimes’ boots!
Have the original novels been translated into English?
Definitely both Night Watch and Day Watch have been. I just finished reading Day Watch. Both are available in softcover from Mirimax books.
Is that true? I know that as Fox are funding the third movie that it’s going to be in English which I personally think is setting a bad trend for how the rest of the movie might go.
Interesting trailer, also available on youtube.
The cast seem to have a penchant for running through walls a lot
Night Watch (which is actually three stories, one of which has been adapted to the movie Day Watch) and Day Watch have been released in English. The others are coming.
