Anyone know what could be causing dryer to stop working? Stopped mid cycle…still turns on but just hums then turns off. Was going to start with cleaning out the lint exhaust…any other tips? Thanks!
Does the motor spin?
Because if not, i think the coil gets too hot and the over heat switch turns off the dryer
If the drum isnt spinning, the belt may have snapped.
They arent terribly hard to replace
Can you turn the drum with your hand? Does it turn stiffly or easily(too easily)? If it turns rather easily, you may have a broken belt.
This. And they aren’t a very complicated machine: Motor, drum, belt, heater.
Thanks! I can’t turn it with my hand but when i turn it on it seems to be rotating rather slowly and loudly. I think you might be right about the belt. Need to watch a you tube video.
Gas or electric? It makes an immense difference in debugging.
Common cause for such behavior in a gas dryer is the ignition fails. And there are several reasons for that.
There are many general appliance DIY repair sites out there such as this one.
Sounds like the drum seals have failed, which puts enough strain on the motor and causes the motor to shut down.
