Dead Can Dance "Rakim" lyrics question?

…I was just wondering if anyone here would happen to know what the lyrics of Dead Can Dance’s song “Rakim” (From their album “Toward the Within”) are. To be more precise, the few verses sung in a non-English language (Latin, maybe?) near the beginning of the song. The rest of the song’s lyrics, which are in English, I can find online, but not the other ones.
Thanks for your time,
Ranchoth

No idea, sorry. But “Within The Realm Of a Dying Sun” is among some of my favourite albums in the last 10 years.

Nice to see you mention DCD though

He’s not singing in a natural language, it’s just something he made up. Maybe after all that time hearing Lisa Gerrard do it he wanted to give it a go. Came out pretty good, too.

Yay, more Dead Can Dance fans! They seem to be pretty unknown, although Lisa Gerrard has been pursuing some pretty lucrative soundtrack projects since the broke up (I actually heard her vocals on a trailer for T3… VERY bizarre). I play Towards the Within quite constantly, and The Mirror Pool is one of my favorite meditation/quiet time albums.

And yeah, since Lisa makes up her own lyrics, I wouldn’t be surprised if, as hazel-rah says, Brendan took a stab at it.

The only tidbit of information I can add is that the title “Rakim” comes from a verse in the Qur’ân, 18:9. It is a mysterious word (actually raqîm) that has puzzled the commentators. Usually explained as meaning ‘inscription’. The same word as that rapper’s name.

It’s Turkish, not babble.

I’ll participate in the zombie thread because I like this song!

Are you sure? I’ve heard multiple versions of the song where he changes the syllables, implying that they’re not real lyrics. If they are Turkish, any idea what he’s saying?

Just so everyone know - they’ve reformed and put out a new album.

Not only have they gotten back together, they are touring. If you’ve never seen DCD live, your life is not complete.

For 2013, they have dates booked in Australia, Japan, and Europe right now.

I saw them live last August in the United States. It was just awesome.
