A person I know had hundreds of rats under their house that were killed by poison. Now that it is getting warmer there is a really bad smell in the house that is coming through the vents. The bodies of the rats would be under the house and not in a position that a person could get to. What is the best way to get rid of this smell? Is this something for a professional?
This house has absolutely no crawl space underneath? I’ve never heard of a house built like that unless were talking about a cabin or shack of some sort.
You could get a dead cat.
I don’t know. All I know is there is not a way for him to get to the rats.
A dead cat smell can remove a dead rat smell?
Here is a better discription of the situation. The house is on a concrete slab and the rats are dead under that, but the smell is coming up through a pipe/vent that runs through the slab. The smell then enters the house. What can be done about this smell?
How about completely sealing that pipe/vent to stop the smell from coming thru? But then you’d need to install a new one to replace whatever function that pipe is performing.
So the ground has eroded away under the slab, leaving room for rat colonies? They are supposed to use rat deterant building techniques when they pour in areas like Texas. If it’s a new home, a consultation with the builder might be in order to determine what steps have already been taken.
I would suggest consulting a cement company about filling in that area with more concrete. After all, when the rat smell goes away, I’m sure the rats will be back.
Other than that, I’d suggest using expanding foam to fill any cracks or holes in the slab.
The house is in Texas - what a great state.

The hole (or how ever they were getting in) has been taken care of. I will tell him to look into having the area under the concrete looked at.
