Deadwood: 13 August

I think it would be best for him to slink off totally humiliated but he certainly could die. They are not even close to following history exactly. For example, Jack McCall was found guilty at a second trial and hanged.

This was an outstanding episode. The whole town, former enemies and all, came together and executed a perfect strategy against Hearst. Al is a master strategist and a hero. He jumped off the balcony to help save Alma and then beat that asshole Pinkerton to death in retribution for what Hearst did to Wu, Alma and Merrick.

Only two more episodes of the best TV show in history and I bet that they are going to be outstanding.

Dio, I had read the same thing about the two two-hour movies.

I liked the scene where Charlie and Swidgin conversed, as I was waiting for an Al Explosion while waiting for Mr. Utter to get the words out. Ditto when Bullock got into town and you could tell he was distressed at having to get the news from Charlie v. someone less verbose.

Next week’s episode should be great.

I love seeing Al and Bullock interact. Bullock is the only person in town, including Hearst, whom Al cannot bully or otherwise dominate.

I hope Hearst isn’t shot and, believe it or not, I would like Hearst to actually win his fair share of fights. Deadwood is not a happy place and the show should reflect that.

Does anyone know what Hearst actually ended up doing in Deadwood?

Here’s one of several stories: http://www.legendsofamerica.com/WE-George%20Hearst.html

Here’s another account:

Thanks MLS.

So Hearst did well in Deadwood.

Interesting.

and Mose Manual is based on a real person too. Cool.

Yeah, that’s good stuff. I’ll wait for the DVDs. I just started watching The Wire this season, so I’ll start from the beginning via Netflix, get caught up.

I doubt that those two movies to “wrap up” Deadwood will ever happen. If they do, I’ll buy the DVD.

Hajario, McCall’s first trial happened just like it did on the show. Where Milch veered away from history was in having Seth and Charlie track him down and take him to Yankton. I don’t remember if the second trial and the hanging was mentioned on the show or not.

As for Hearst in the previews looking at blood on his hands, over at the HBO board they’re speculating that Trixie shoots him. That’d be cool.

What, no one is speculating Aunt Lou?

Trixie I think has to die or leave the camp since Sol ended up a lifetime bachelor if memory serves (rumored to have a long time Chinese mistress).

I disagree. He could remain a lifelong bachelor and still have Trixie next door.

Yeah, poor Aunt Lou. It’d make some sense if SHE shot Hearst, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Trixie’s getting antsy… I don’t see her staying “Mama Hedgehog” popping out of the wall at Sol’s whim.

Yeah, but Trixie’s always been antsy. What better alternative does she have?

Wait so you think it would be perfectly in character for Sol and Trixie to have this bizarre arrangement for the rest of their lives?

Sure. Why not?

It’s not as if Sol is going to take an (ex) prostitute home to Momma, or settle down with her and raise a bunch of half-Jewish children. As far as I can tell, there are no Jewish women around anyway, and the shiksas are not likely to see him as husband material. Nor is Trixie likely to complain about having sex with a guy she’s not married to.

First of all, don’t trust the previews. The preview making cock suckers love nothing more than to fuck with us, by that I mean using deception to force idle fucking speculation having nothing to do with the issues at hand.

Remember, Aunt Lou speaks some Cantonese. I think she will play her part by translating for fucking Wu so he won’t have to rely on his artwork.

The real-life Sol had political ambitions. Emotional attatchments aside, a foul-mouthed whore is not the person he would have wanted to marry.

Except that in-show Sol has made overtures of that nature to Trixie. He suggested that THEY (not HE not SHE but THEY) adopt Sofia if anything happened to Alma.
To me based on the characters in the show and looking at the history it doesn’t make any sense for Trixie and Sol to keep this arrangement forever.

Just saw it last night. A couple of quick comments:

Al’s back! Dolly better get the knee pads on.

Loved Martha’s reaction shots as dangerous armed men kept showing up at her school house window and giving her signs that were supposed to reassure her.

Rube, and wasn’t it cute, how Silas signalled to that little boy to turn around?

Zeldar, Earl talked about the writing over at the HBO board. He said he wrote pretty much all of it except the stuff with the actors and Jane’s recollection of her dream.

I’m still waiting for Turtlegirl to post the transcript so I can try to figure out what the hell’s going on with Langrishe and those two women! It looks like he’s rejecting Mary the artist in favor of Josianne (sp?) the dancer. But I’m puzzled about what he meant about perpetuating a “sham”. What’s the sham?

I’ve read that the actors’ story was going to be fleshed out in season four. That makes me wish the cancellation had been announced sooner, so they could have spent less time with the actors and more time with Sol, Trixie, Seth, Martha, Silas, and Dan and his stage-sick girlfriend!

See the ‘sham’ thing got me too. I’ve watched it twice now and haven’t been able to suss out what the hell was going on. My original theory was that the ‘sham’ was that the two women weren’t connected. I was thinking that Mary was the mom and Josianne was the daughter. They both wanted Langrishe to accept them but he only took the daughter and is sending the mother away.

One of my roomates was an extra in this episode (when Jane and Joanie relieve Charlie, he’s sitting at the bench behind them drinking). He was also in a scene set in Sturgis with Bullock making a speech. I assume that was cut from this episode.

If they’re mother and daughter, then it’s even more weird. He tells one of them (Mary, I think) that he hasn’t “laid a carnal hand” on the other. Mary wants to be “acknowledged” by Langrishe, but as what?

I hope we’ll find out.

That’s cool about your roommate. I’ll bet there’s enough deleted scenes to make another season.
