Deadwood - July 30th

I fail to see any point in the ailing actor story line? While he wasn’t a major character, enough time was devoted to him to at least have somewhat of a storyline impact but I don’t detect any.

What’s with Jack? Some sort of primitive chiropractor or someone with “magical” abilities ala Carnival?

Doc was able to speak tonight. At least just enough to say that Steve is phucked.

Not sure what to make of the Earps. I find Wyatt to be very different from his brother. Will his brother (can’t recall his name) end up in a box and Wyatt join forces with Bullock?

Hurst received his 25 “bricks” but it sounds like Wu’s forces are about to arrive as well.

Sorry this is a wandering random entry - but then so was the episode…

two thread opened at the same time - mod’s please feel free to combine

I believe that’s Morgan. Well, since Morgan Earp did not die in 1877, I don’t think so. Sometimes the storyline is inconveniently constrained by history (same reason Seth can’t beat George Hearst to death).

I should have realised that there was historical data available on the Earps being in Deadwood. To be honest, I don’t recall ever hearing of Morgan.

I swear I looked and didn’t see this thread. Anyway, my two cents:

Hoo-rah. Steve the Drunk got a kick in the head, eh? Couldn’t happen to a more appropriate guy.

And the Bullocks are being “sweet” in the evening? Wonder doesn’t Seth remember an even “sweeter” widow?

Other than that, not much tonight IMHO.

I don’t think so. I think it’s Jack’s attempt to temporarily distract Hearst, get him to think about something other than taking down the camp.

It was lame, but he tried.

Unlike that cocksucker Cy, who will forever play two ends against the middle, just for the sake of being in the play.

From the previews, Richardson juggles!

Who else was surprised that Richardson could read?

Where was Alma this ep? Can we assume she was just on the nod all ep?

Will the NG take over the livery? Will he hook up with Aunt Lou?

What exactly happened between Jane and Joanie?

What was with the chiropractics? Did Langrishe just want to grope Hearst?

I thought Langrishe was going to use the opportunity on the table to snap Hearst’s neck. Hey, it could happen!

I’m also not getting the acting troupe story line. Aside for giving Al a friend who is somewhat equal to him, Langrishe adds “color” but isn’t moving any major story lines forward.

You could see it in that horse’s eye that he desperately wanted to kick Steve in the head. Really, it was premeditated. If NG wants to do Steve a favor, he’ll snuff him and put him out of his misery.

Off the topic. Bullock appears to have been a mighty colorful character. He was a personal friend of Teddy Roosevelt. He was named a troop captain in Roosevelt’s Rough Riders. He introduced legislation in the Territorial Senate of Montana to set aside Yellowstone for all time as a national park. The constraints of Deadwood don’t allow for the exploration of those facets of Bullock’s character, but his life seems tailor-made for a special on the History Channel, hmmm?

*Seth Bullock and Wyatt Earp Gunfight in Heaven * sounds like a Sherman Alexie novel gone all HBO. Is it wrong of me to want to see that happen?

Just what we needed, two more cocksuckers in the cast. As if there aren’t enough chacters to keep track of.

Morgan seems to be a second rate grifter who is way over his head in Deadwood. Wyatt’s game is more complex and yet to be revealed. Cy’s going to throw him out on his ass and embarrass him which may cause him to join forces with Seth/Al.

Finally there is a purpose for Jack. He is scamming Hearst with the fake back treatments. He will be able to get Hearst in a vulnerable position for the treatments which could be Hearst’s undoing. Why did he let Hearst know that he was Al’s friend? Makes no sense.

Also, what was the deal with Lou and the broach? Is there more to that?

That’s not the way I read it. My understanding was that Cy was going to engineer a confrontation between Morgan and Seth that no one really sees, then have Seth provoked again in public so he’ll take a rash action that will damage him politically and maybe legally. In other words, he’s counting on Seth’s temper betraying him. And sinde the camp won’t be privy to the events that led to the provocation, it will look like Seth overreacted.

Something tells me it won’t work.

Makes perfect since. It gives the impression that Langrishe doesn’t know that Al and Hearst are enemies. Thus Hearst would assume that Al is not making Langrishe privvy to any intrigue. By acknowledging that he and Al are friends, Langrishe comes off as harmless.

I think the brooch is gris-gris.

OK, fight some ignorance here. What is gris-gris?

Gris-gris is a talisman against evil. I’m no expert on voodoo (and someone is bound to come in and point out it’s vodoun), but I think gris-gris is usually in the form of a small (preferably red) bag filled with bones, stones, herbs, nail clippings and whatnot; though it could also be an amulet.

Langrishe mentioned “delay” when talking to Al about Hearst. My husband’s take is he hopes to inspire Hearst to preserve the status quo so he can continue to get “treatments,” instead of destroying the town.

I’m guessing Joanie and Jane just kissed, as Jane slept on the floor. Though the innkeeper clearly thought otherwise. LOVED Jane’s response to him.

Has that always been your username?

The transcipt’s not up yet but Wyatt mentioned seveal times to Morgan about putting his “plan” in place. The first stage was to make themselves look like heros which Al figured out in a heartbeat.

I agree that Cy had a plan to do what you suggested. Cy presented that to Hearst and Hearst didn’t tell him to go forward (yet?). Anyway, I based my comments on what Cy said at the end of the episode when he saw all of Hearst’s men come to camp, something like “throw those two out.” He realized that they weren’t needed.

Nope, it is from the last episode. I just can’t figure out how to make my signature with my old name (AerynSun) show up.
