Deadwood...

I’m also curious about Bullock and his nose.

What was going on with the fat guy peeping in to watch the schoolchildren? Would that be considered improper?

Was the implication that Hearst has ordered his goons to kill Al?

  1. I think Bullock is terrified of public speaking and the nose thing I think is a tic.

  2. Jane seemed to be of the opinion that Mose’s size and look scared the children, hence his hiding. Both of them seemed really interested in watching the class.

  3. I thought that was more than implied.

Custer was a cunt. The end.

God, I love the Jane character, but I’ve never seen her this sober!

I thought that the fat guy and Jane were maybe both trying to get in a little learnin’.

I love when EB just has the role of narrator. . .“Bullock ascends.”

The New Yorker “review” (more of a recap) from last week said that Deadwood was the most profane and ornate language ever on TV. Great start to the season. Al sure likes scrubbin’ a blood stain.

Yes, he rents out rooms. He was giving Joanie a hard time because he assumed she was renting a room to use with her customers. He asked what she did in the room last time, and she told him she sat on the bed. I got the impression from that that it wasn’t the first time Joanie had been there with the intention to kill herself.

Lochdale- the traditional language of Cornwall was Cornish, a Celtic language, from the same language as Welsh. Very few people speak it now, so I assume the producers found some Irish speakers and used them, guessing that the average viewer wouldn’t know the difference.

Yeah, that’s Joanie’s old brothel. Looks like Mose and Joanie are living there.

I’m wondering what happened to Mose’s $200K from the sale of his mine. Did he lose all that money gambling and whoring at Cy’s place? Jane seemed to be chiding him about getting a job.

I have two complaints about the characters, but it’s just me, I know. Jane is too over the top sometimes. She’s especially on the offensive with men, even with men who don’t wish her any harm. I realize it’s accurate, that she was an obnoxious character and nobody wanted her around. But it’s getting old. And I want her to be nicer to Charlie.

And Trixie – she’s still fucken this and fucken that and she’s angry all the time. I realize her life is in flux and change is hard, but I’m starting to cringe when she’s on the screen. Lighten up, Trixie!

I think that Jane feels betrayed by Charlie which is why she is so terrible to him. Bill, Jane and Charlie were rough, sleeping in wagons, riding the trails buddies. Bill gets killed and Charlie settles down and becomes a townie.

I was confused by her reaction to Bullock when he walked in while she was talking to Mrs. Bullock.

I took that as Jane assuming that Seth wouldn’t approve of her being in there - either because he’d think she shouldn’t be in the school, or he wouldn’t want her talking to his wife - both of these are in Jane’s head, though. I doubt Seth particularly cares either way.

Jane treated Charlie like crap even before he became a townie. Maybe she was jealous of his friendship with Bill.

I’m guessing her attitude is because of her horrible experiences with men. She told Doc she’d been “done to” as a child, and then last season she comes into camp all beat up and not remembering what happened.

She has her reasons, but it hurts to see her with her guard up all the time.

Jane’s the comic relief, and she cracks me up every moment she’s onscreen, but she’s an incredibly tragic character at the same time. She’s hopelessly addicted to alcohol, has an irrational distrust for people, and her false bravado barely disguises a deep well of self-loathing. I feel so bad for her.

Well, I thought it was ok. After that nightmare Sopranos season, how bad could Deadwood be?

However, I am so sick of Bullock’s “stare”. Enough already. You are a skinny tight ass. Someone’s going to bitch slap him Figures he’d pick on E.B.

And another slight complaint… Bullock’s new hairdo. Please let’s not have another Nick Stokes!

My bad. I thought I saw a sign “Booksellers” over the door to the rooming house. Maybe I was dreaming, because on second viewing I didn’t see it.

The nose tic thing left me wondering as well. You’d think we’d have seen that before. Since the behavior started during his talk with Hearst, maybe Bullock is catching a whiff of cat-piss.

I’ve seen little of the first series and not much of the second, all that cocksuckering puts the girlfriend off watching you see

Too bad, my wife loves this show. Hell normally I get squeemish with the c word but here it doesn’t even raise an eybrow.

I had the feeling that Jane seemed to more than just prefer the company of women. There is something about her shy eyes darting demenour around Joanie that reminds me of an awkward teen with a crush. My wife doesn’t see it.

So how much time has passed between the seasons? It ca’t be more than a week.
I rewatched teh final episode and it was stated teh elections would happen in six weeks. But I note Hearst’s hole in the wall hasn’t grown much. Woo is suddenly gone… business in San Francisco perhaps (isn’t that where his rival worked out of?)

Did Al just make a stupid mistake in confronting Hearst. I don’t see the angle. Unlike Tolliver, he was smart when he first met Hearst and didn’t bother with weasling in or uttering threats to expose associates crimes. Suddenly he threatens to endanger the stability of the camp.

Is it because Hearst used Al’s place to test his power with the shooting?
Or is it that he didn’t like the fact Hearst could use Bullock’s affair as leverage on the sherrif?

This is what I hear in my head whenever I watch Bullock walk…
Clench…Clench…Clench…Clench…Clench…Clench…Clench…Clench…Clench…

Jane has bee that way ever since Joanie gave her a bath last season.

I thought it was all just part of the power play.

Hearst used the staged murder as a way to get some power over Bullock and Al.

Al basically told him, “that shit won’t play here”, and then drank all his whiskey.

I loved it when Al told him up front, “no need to ask if I want more whiskey when the glass is empty.”

I watched this any last night to see what I missed in the dialog the first time through. I thought it was a good start to the season. I’m surprised no one mentioned E.B. saving bits from the plates for the next day’s omelettes. Ick.

There were several signs. One had some version of “rooms for let” on it. The rest were religious in nature, which explains Shaunessey’s issue with Joanie. Anyway, it’s a flop house.

Someone in the know at TWOP says it’s been six weeks, more or less. Enough time for Alma and Ellsworth to have their honeymoon, and for them to find or build and move into a home of their own.

I liked Al’s final words to Hearst. “Once placated, I’m meek as a babe.” He looks at the empty whisky bottle and says “Dead”. Like “You’ll be safe from me when I’m dead”.
