Do all states allow the deaf to drive? If you are deaf, does it have to appear on your drivers licesence (sp)? I am the worlds worst speller, I admitt that!!
I don’t know of a state that doesn’t let you drive if you’re deaf. Yes being deaf does take away one one part of driving, but not the most important.
Here in MD they put a letter on your license that says if you’re deaf, or other handicaps for that matter.
I don’t know of a single state that prohibits the deaf from driving.
I was born severely to profoundly deaf, and the state of Oregon made no note of that on my driver’s license. However, the state of Oregon did see fit to make a little notation on my driver’s license indicating that I wear corrective lenses.
As for driving, I just pay more attention visually to what’s going on around me, especially behind me. Which is something that I think a lot of hearing drivers could stand to learn how to do also.
My former deaf girlfriend had a notation on her license that she was restricted to cars with rear-view mirrors (on both sides I think it meant.)… Alabama, BTW.

I’m in california, No such requirments. Im surprise the Deaf don’t protest having some letter on your license. I looks like a Scarlet Letter :-0
One insurance guy was a bit iffy insuring me, sweating & all, but I think he thought he could catch it cause I went to another branch office & it went through okay.
