Dear google chrome how I love thee

Chrome tab “management” sucks. Firefox tab management rocks.

It’s optional. If you choose the “sign in” option in Chrome, then settings, bookmarks, etc can be stored on the Google server under your Google account. Which is awesome - if you have multiple computers, tablets and phones, you can “sign in” to your Google account from all these devices and have access to a common set of bookmarks, saved passwords, etc.

Microsoft is doing something similar with Win-8. If you log on to your Win-8 computer using a Microsoft Live account, and log on to another Win-8 system using the same credentials, a lot of setups get synchronized. I have to admit it was rather disconcerting to see my familiar customized wallpaper on a new Win-8 system I just bought.

Enter “chrome://settings/passwords” on chrome’s address bar. This shows all saved usernames and passwords in clear text(on clicking show against passwords). I find it bizarre.

Firefox, by default, isn’t much better. You can opt to use a master password to have the rest encrypted, but most people probably wouldn’t bother.

Thanks for sharing. So even harmless people who may want to use our computers can easily know the stored passwords (unless we encrypt them, but as know say, most people don’t bother).

I switched to Chrome (from IE) at work today. We historically only supported IE, but acquired some other companies that were heavy on the Chrome side. I got tired of how long it took IE to populate pull down lists…IE was taking 30 seconds every time I needed to select something, whereas Chrome took about 2 seconds.

I’ve been using Chrome at home for a while, so it was an easy, and welcome, transition.

You should just let them use the (Windows) Guest account, which normally can’t access files in your user profile folder.

You are very right. I was coming from perspective of a casual pc user who thinks he/she has no docs etc to hide in his/her normal user account and thinks he can let a harmless guy (friend/family etc) use his pc (even on a user with admin privileges). But I guess such a case is no longer acceptable.

I’ve been using Chrome lately because Firefox has been getting all buggy, but it’s got one bizarre feature:

Just after I’ve Googled something, when I click on one of the links in the search results page, I get…another search engine. Not always the same one, although there’s a fair amount of repetition (beesq.net shows up a lot in my history, as does klickthrutoolbar.org, drivesearch.org, and shopfindguides.com).

If I kill the page with the new search engine, and go back and click on the link on the search results page a second time, I get the page I was supposed to get. But it’s gotten to be annoying as hell, and will probably drive me back to Firefox unless I can find a solution. Has anyone else had this happen to them? It’s especially wierd that it should happen in Google’s own browser.

You’ve got malware. :frowning:

Will it help me Google search information about zombies?

I can’t fit all my bookmark icons across a single screen on Chrome, but they fit on Firefox. At least, the last time I checked.

This is the only thing preventing me from switching.
