The infamous Chicks will be here in 48 hours and as I have been reading in the paper and listening to local talk radio, the protester/venue war is already starting. I also hear that CNN will be here, along with other national news organizations since this is in fact the Chicks first concert since the brouhaha began. And for some reason, I’ve got a pretty good idea of what this is going to look like. Possible/probable picket signs:
“Dixie Sluts”
“We’re embarrassed the Dixie Chicks are in our city”
“If you buy drugs you’re supporting the terrorists” (ok, maybe not)
“Whores!!!”
Ok, you get the picture. As we speak, I’m sure there is a run on posterboard and yardsticks at Wal-Mart. In fact, a local radio personality is trading D.C. tix (hey!) for a ANTI D.C. concert featuring the Marshall Tucker band. Where can you trade in your worthless D.C. tix for some Marshall tix? At GREAT CLIPS in WAL MART!!! (cue banjo music). And CNN is going to be there. This is going to be very ugly.
I got kind of pissed of when she first said what she said, and I thought their TV interview was pathetic. But seriously, in the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t matter. If you bought tickets and you don’t want to go, stay home and watch Survivor. If you’re mad about what they said, don’t take your WWE sign down to the Bilo Center so that the National Press can decide you are the most red-necky person they could find and therefore win the TV face-time lottery. All my fellow Dopers are going to see you and make me change my location. And don’t worry, your posterboard will come in handy very soon.
I’ve been here too long. When I read, “The infamous Chicks will be here…” I thought Jack Chick and his wife would be in town. Though I can’t figure out why CNN would be interested in THEM.
So what did the Dixie Chicks do that was so terrible, anyway? I’m not a fan, but I haven’t heard anything about them.
I did the same thing, whiterabbit. Then I remembered that they’ll be here as well - our Knoxville protesters aren’t up in arms yet, but I can’t wait for the excitement! (They’ll be here May 7!)
Ok, I have to say that I had a feeling this was going to be in reference to good ol’ Greenvagas! (the he-haw thing gave it away) I am just here to say I will not be at the show and it isnt because of what Maines said, I am just not going because I think they suck musically.
On another note, I am nervous about how stupid we are going to look with all of the red-neck trash thats going to be “voicing opinions” on major news networks around the nation. I think the last time we were on national news was when the redneck shop was causing mischief! Oh well, I may have to change my location as well.
I hope no one blames the town for the local Crap Shack. Sheesh. Pretty soon I’m gonna be held liable for potholes and local commercials, too.
Re: the OP, while I would never wish violence upon anyone, I do hope that no one goes to that concert. Not b/c I care about what she said, but because she can’t sing. And thus would be wise never to open her mouth again, period.
I just don’t get it. Can we not enjoy the work of someone who’s political views differ from ours? So some people disagree with her. Does that mean that all of a sudden their music sucks?
I am so sick of this crap. I am not a big country music fan, I do have a couple of country CDs, however I am tempted to go out and buy the Chicks CD. I do think what, how and where she said it was a rather dumb move, but since when are people not allowed to say stupid things?
It’s not so much she said a stupid thing…it’s that she expressed her private opinion (which shoulda been kept private,IMO) in public during a high-stress time for t he US and Gee Dubyah.
I can’t WAIT till they get to Dallas (if indeed they come here at all) because since they were originally a hometown band, Dallasites will moiderlize them.
Not only that but from what I’ve heard, she apologized for saying those things but wasn’t sincere.
Not all of us. I’m just worried about that 1 percent that hates the Chicks ** AND ** is going to waste 6 hours of their worthless life to go down to the Bilo Center and protest and scream and make a commotion for the local and national press who can’t wait to get some rednecks on TV to show how pointless their “protest” is.
I don’t like country music, but I don’t mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means “put down”. - Bob Newhart
