I understand what you’re saying, but when I follow that line of reasoning, I conclude that if these threads are recreational, and chatter, then they should be in MPSIMS. I know, the language…
But there’s really no discussion to be had. It happened, it’s terrible, but it’s also probably close to unique. I can understand RO threads about abused children, sort of, if only because if enough people hear “CPS does not take children away and it does not break up families!” they might start believing it. But in this case, what is there to say besides “That’s horrible!”?
I don’t think it’s part of a growing trend, of people killing dogs and delivering the heads gift-wrapped. And if it’s not part of a bigger problem, about which something can and should be done, then why not talk about it in MPSIMS? It really is just chatter, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt right about these threads being in the Pit.
So naturally, such a person deserves to have her dog kidnapped and killed, and her dog’s head left on her doorstep.

I think it’s a mistake for the article to include mention of her new puppy. It seems like an open invitation for whoever did this to her to hurt her (and her new puppy) even more.
It was just that–an observation.
I imagine they’ll be keeping it close at hand. And hopefully, as was mentioned above, the publicity this incident has caused will lead the police to investigate thoroughly enough to find out who did it and the miscreant will spend considerable time being housed at government expense.

Hey, if there is a thread discussing recreational outrage then shouldn’t all the outrage at the supposed recreational outrage be in that thread? If y’all don’t like these supposed recreational outrage threads why are you even bothering to post in them? If they are so boring and useless they’d go away if you didn’t keep topping them. Killing children is fucked up, I think we can all agree on that, but it happens and we see it way too often. Killing animals for fun is fucked up, I think we can all agree on that (okay, except for a few sickos that frequent these boards) but it happens and we see it way too often. Fucking with the head of an already fucked up kid is just an extreme special kind of fucked up that is sometimes just beyond belief to most of us socially and emotionally normal people that we just can’t believe our fellow humans are capable of doing such things and want to rant about it. Must all pit rants be limited to political, corporate or just crap crap?
To all those talking about what a loser the girl was, this was her therapy dog that was killed and mutilated and sent to her! I gather from the term “therapy dog” and the descriptions of the dog being her only friend and confidant that the girl has some issues which the dog was supposed to help and that makes this cruel act even more disturbing.

Where are you getting the information that this was a therapy dog? Neither of the linked articles claim such, and the article on CNN that turned up in a search doesn’t either. One does not let a therapy or assistance dog “wander away.”* It’s terrible that this happened, but there’s no need to inject MORE potential tragedy by elevating the dog to “therapy” status.
I personally think they’re going to find that this was the action of a rejected potential suitor, not some local serial-killer-in-the-making. Either way, I hope they do find the person(s) responsible.

According to the article found here (you may have to register, but it only requires minimal information. Search the site, if necessary, for Crystal Brown), the girl has had a ‘troubled’ life. I imagine the dog was more of an unofficial type of therapy dog than the kind usually referred to by that name, as she says the dog waited years for her to ‘get herself together’. The poor kid plastered her neighborhood with posters, went door-to-door checking to see if anyone had spotted him, and rode the bus numerous times to the animal shelter hoping to find/rescue him. Pretty sad. She’s rather attractive and I wouldn’t be surprised if the asshole’s either an ex-boyfriend or someone who hit on her and struck out.
I wonder what that 17 year old girl did to make someone hate her so much. It doesn’t seem like a random act of violence so I wonder what makes a person do seomthing like that.
Ya know buttonjockey, I appreciate this thread enormously, for a variety of reasons. But the biggest is the fact that this teenager could use as much support and kindness that she can get, no matter why this happened. Therefore, I don’t think it would be asking too much of myself to at least drop a card in the mail. So I’d like to thank you for the opportunity. If I get more of these out of the dastardly RO ! threads, then bring 'em on. [ ::: shrug ::: ] If I can’t deal, I’ll just skip out on them as easily as I do others I’m not interested in. Just speaking for myself, of course.

Oh man, I’m reading the story where it mentioned how he was her therapy dog. That’s so fucking sick. Not just for the animal cruelty, but why on earth would someone want to hurt that poor girl in such a cruel and twisted way?
