And it’s about the way people drive their vehicles.
A Lamborghini driver would scream away from a stop light with an attitude of “My car is faster than yours.” (Well, no kidding.)
Then there’s the SUV driver who pulls up right on your tail with the attitude “My vehicle is bigger than your so you have to get out of my way. You would lose in any crash, so move.”
And no, I don’t think all SUV drivers act like this. Just a very substantial portion of them. They don’t seem to realize that an SUV does not protect them very well either.
A Lamborhini driver might tailgate you, but so what? If he hits you, he damages a $300,000 car and then you sue him.
An SUV that tailgates you could kill you.
A Diablo might weave in and out of traffic. Very irritating and potentially dangerous. Some SUV drivers do the same thing, seemingly oblivious to the fact that their vehicles are not made for that sort of maneuvering.
I am not excusing Lamborghini drivers who act out.
I’ve never seen a Murcielago weave in and out of traffic after tailgating me, or even scream away from a stoplight. That would actually be kind of cool to see.
I’ve seen a fair share of SUV driving wankers do all of the above.
I have no beef with legit SUV drivers. Just the posers.
Shit, I might have to buy an SUV soon. Wifey’s car is getting on. We have 2 decent sized dogs. We will have a kid before the new car is retired (). We both live 2 miles from our respective jobs. Her Grandfather is still alive and worked for GM his whole life so we get a nice discount on GM vehicles.
What the hell can I buy? GMs cars for the most part lag behind everyone elses, and they don’t offer a nice, sporty wagon (not mutually incompatible terms). Their minivans are pretty much as bad as the car and I’m afraid of owning a minivan at 27.
I would love a euro style MPV or Renault Espace.
I’m confused, then. You began this thread by singling out one particular SUV driver – even though you didn’t actually see the person driving the SUV. Now you say you’re upset with the way people drive their vehicles. What, exactly, are you railing against here?
You say that an SUV that tailgates can kill you. Any vehicle that tailgates can kill you.
Some SUV drivers weave their vehicles in and out of traffic. True. So do drivers of every make and model of vehicle. From a personal perspective, the worst offenders I’ve seen of this type of driving are motorcyclists. Does that mean I automatically think the operator of a motorcycle is a poor driver? Of course not.
Do some SUV drivers lack the intelligence and driving ability to handle their vehicles properly? Yes. So do drivers of every other type of vehicle.
I guess I just don’t understand the automatic stereotyping of a person based on the type of transportation they use.
And for the record, I drive a 10-year-old Mazda 626.
True. I also say that some SUV drivers suffer from a misplaced sense of invincibility inside their urban tanks.
An idiot in an SUV is far more of a danger to me than an idiot on a motorcycle.
Stereotypes get their start somewhere. It’s not like ELF just decided to spread false rumors targeting SUV drivers.
Vehicle choice is not an ethnic or religious group. For those with sufficient funds to by the vehicle of their choice, that choice does reflect a lot on their personality. Look at the so-called “ricer” cars. Or Trans-Ams vs. Cadillacs.
Well it looks like we’re at the point that all SUV hater threads get to, the ignorance loop.
"I have no beef with legit SUV drivers. Just the posers"
<sigh> and how do you know which one they are? By looking at them?
Oh, wait, thats right because, they didn’t wash their car or choose to drive it in the city. They couldn’t possibly use it anywhere else. They probably drive it around that same block all day.
I find it pretty cool that you can judge how much money a person is worth by looking at them. Then you can instantaneously and righteously pass judgement on all facets of their life with 100% accuracy.
I know that sloppy reading is common on boards/usenet, but that really takes the prize.
Will you claim that it is totally irrlelevant to observe the class of drivers who drive “ricers”? (Hate that name, btw.) Will you claim that the selection of a “ricer” has absolutely no reflection on their personality?
