I’m glad you deleted that thread. Those bastards, asking for a proper Mac Filesharing application. They need to scrub their brains with steel wool for thinking such evil, evil things. It makes me shudder at their complete lack of morals or any idea of proper ethics. To those EVIL nasty people:
What the fuck is wrong with you? Don’t you think of Lars Urich, sitting in his mansion, crying from hunger pangs because bastards like you are downloading his album rather than shelling out $15 fucking dollars? Fuck you. It’s a proven statistic that anyone who has ever downloaded anything, from a filing share application has either gone on to be heroin(or the equally evil Marijuana) or mysteriously contracted the black plague.
[/end sarcasm]
[begin seriousness]
Why did you feel the need to delete it? File sharing does not equal stealing copyrigthed material. You’re hunting a phantom threat if you’re worried about a music company sueing you because someone told another person about an apllication that could in some possiblity get some of their material.
It’s not like he was saying “OMG NEW LINKIN PARK HEY GUYZ WHERE CAN I GET EVIL MAC FILE SHARING APPLICATIONS??@”. I can understand you not wanting people to say “I wanna download this song, where’s a app I can use?”, although a company trying to sue every person and website that either advocates getting a MP3 or contains one is patently absurd.
I realize that you guys run at a loss, and wish to not have legal action against a big corporation, but is deleting a thread like that neccesary?
It’s not the threat of legal action in this instance. The CR, Cecil Adams, and some of us staff create copyrighted material, and we DON’T like to enable people to rip off other artists. While a file sharing program might be used for legit purposes, mostly they’re used to steal copyrighted material.
It’s pretty much policy that such links will be deleted. Get over it.
I would be the one who posted the link in response to Aslan2’s query. The whole copyright infringement thing didn’t even occur to me. :smack: Sorry about that.
Heck, and I thought it was because one of the Admins/Mods foresaw the misuse of “whomever” in a thread title and did what needed to be done to make that happen.
On the plus side, the OP is one of the few folks who actually uses “moral” to mean “a particular character trait” and not “morale.”
I read that thread and composed an extraordinarily witty response, but when I hit “Submit”, I got sent to a scary looking page telling me that I’d attempted to break into the system or some such.
I disagree- that poster was not encouraging others to use LimeWire. In fact he was discouraging others from using it since the whole point of the thread was to complain about its mediocrity. I’m not saying it was a great thread, just that deleting it was probably overkill. Of course it’s easy to delete a thread and say whatever you want about it after… which is a luxury that the SDMB mods have, I guess.
And within two or three posts, someone else had posted a link to other alternative programs. Not to deflate your vast conspiracy or anything.
I don’t get it. It’s part of the rules that you agreed to follow when you were given your account. The reason for and thinking behind this policy has been explained many, many times.
Before this point, I had only seen explanations stating that the Reader was afraid of lawsuit because of something like this, wich didn’t make much sense to me.

Fair enough… I was not aware that people had linked to other programs before. However, as I said, the entire thread should not have been deleted. (Although I guess I have been here long enough to know that threads do “disappear” without just cause often enough.)
