Death and hatred to mankind! (or a day in retail).

So for that last few days this guy has been showing up at our store to collect money for the Boys’ & Girls’ club so they can buy new basketball uniforms. He stands outside right by the entrance (sometimes he goes up to people’s cars). He never asked for permission to do this (which can’t even be granted at store-level). He has no paperwork from the BG Club. :smack: We also called them and they don’t know anything about him . We’ve repeatedly told him to leave; which he does and then comes back later. He’s been warned not to set foot on our property again for any reason.

If he shows up we aren’t to even warn him before calling the police. Which I just did today (& someone else did yesterday afternoon after I went home). The 911 operator took my information and send a car out. He walked away just before it arrived (20 minutes later). The same thing happened last night. I gave the cop a description, showed him the video, and told him what direction I saw him going in. There’s nothing they can do now and we should call again if she shows up. What’s the fucking point?

The same thing happened yesterday. The police are useless. While waiting for the police I even had 2 customers (old bitch, middle-aged bitch) mention how nice it someone raising monery for the children. I (rather apathetically) mentioned that he was a con artist and they just got scammed. Then they got mad at me for “allowing him” to harras my customers . They though I should reimburse them. I told them I was waiting for the cops, but if they wanted they could go out and try to get their monery back themselves. He was gone by then and they stormed out in a huff. I don’t care anymore. What the hell am I supposed to do?

The same thing happens with the all the fucking street urchins who come in, shoplift then “hang out” outside. Often harrasing customers (one little boy spent yesterday afternoon running up to peoples cars yelling stuff like “I’m a crip and I’m gonna kill you”). Of course we have know idea who or where their parents are. Of course they ignore us outright when told to leave. If the we call the police they just scatter as soon as they see a cruiser coming down the street. What the hell are we supposed to do? The police say there’s nothing they can do now, but call again if they show up. Occasionally they’ve caught one and taken him home to his family with a warning.

As much as I’d love to corporate doesn’t pay us enough to actually lay hands on them. The police are fucking useless. I’m not entirely sure how to go about kidnapping and selling them to rich pedophiles. How much does a 10 year old boy go for anyway? Some day one of the brats is going to get hit buy a car or piss off the wrong person and get beaten to a pulp. Possibly in our parking lot. And I’m going to be sitting inside, whatching them while I sip my water bottle. Sure I’ll call the cops and fill out an incident report, but that’s it. I don’t care.

Maybe some perverts in a windowless van will pull a couple of them inside and gang rape them before slitting their precious little throughts. I don’t care. Why should I care? They don’t care. Their famlies don’t care. The police don’t care. Not my problem.

Where is your store? Is it in a mall? On a street? A strip mall?

If a few of the people that got ripped off filed police reports, perhaps it would become an active case and the cops would have some motivation to do something about it, instead of a few random phone calls separated by days. The police have to be made to know that it’s a continual problem, not a one-time occurrence.

About $6,500. More, if he’s blonde.

Can you post a bunch of signs warning people some place where they are obvious but where the jerk can’t rip them down?

WARNING: Fraudulent charity collectors known to frequent this area! Please do not donate to anyone who can not show proper charity identification!

The jerk will still get a few, but it should cut down on his business, and you have something to point to if a customer complains that “you should have done something!”.

Well the charity scammer has stopped showing up, but the kids are still a problem. Last a night a couple of them showed up on 2nd shift and completely ignored the staff when they were told to leave. One of them, a 12 year old, what threatening to beat up our store manager, and another just even started waiving stuff he stold in the air outside the window. Again they were gone by the police got there; I’m starting to wonder if we should just lie to the 911 operator and say someone with a gun is in the store. Actually local gossip is that one of the kids did in fact get a handgun from somewhere.

Another member of the little gang has been arrested, but for something different. Something quite horrifying. He stood in a woman’s front yard while her grandkids were looking out the window and took his penis out and simulated masturbation. He is 10 years old and her kids were 2 and 4. This is the same kid who got banned in the spring for telling a female associate to perform oral sex on him when she told him to leave. He’s likely being molested. At least this time the local cops actually did something.

Pepper spray. Then call the cops. They won’t get far enough not to get caught. With luck, they’ll stumble into traffic before the cops get there.

I just bought some of this, which is labeled as better for indoor use. But it would damage any merchandise it comes in contact with. Peruse the site, though, there’s other stuff that might work.

If you all know who the troublemakers are, why do you let them into the store?

How about letting them in, then walk out, lock the door, and call the cops? Who knows how much stuff would be destroyed in the meantime, but that’s when you tell 911 they have a gun.

None of the above is a Really Good Idea, though!

I’d be leery of dealing with them directly. They know where you work and if they want they can figure out how you get to work, when you leave, etc. These kids are not all right upstairs. They have many anti-social urges and no controls, nothing to lose by acting rashly. The hospitals are full of victims of toughs who lash out at people who can identify them and yet they have absolutely no pre-plan of escape. They can’t think five minutes ahead. Despite their size and strength they have basically a preschooler mentality.

You need this guy!!

Can you get up on the roof with a garden hose?

That man is a hero.

That man is an idiot (among other things). After all, he did not succeed in quieting the child…

Right, but then the kid had something to cry about, so that was okay.

Hire somebody to come to the parking lot when the kids are being their asshole selves. When they act out this enforcer can confront them and if called for kick their scrawny asses.

Warn them about the Ninjas then have employees in costumes beat the crap out of them while yelling heeeyahhhhh

Drivebys with paintball guns.

No, he’d be a hero if he slapped the mother.

What in the world? Why should it be ok to slap the baby or the mother? It’s a toddler. It’s going to cry. Some old fart got pissed off about fairly normal behavior and committed assault OF A TODDLER! How is this ok? If the child is crying, but not breaking things, running up and down the aisles, grabbing things off the shelves, and screaming while pounding on the floor, I figure things are going ok. Sounds to me like mom got a handle on the situation, girl was crying because toddlers do that when told no and it’s enforced (and generally stop within 5 minutes or so), and some jerk came along and beat up the toddler. I’d be livid. It’s not like this toddler was acting like a little hooligan, she was just CRYING.

I thank the emergency extensions to Unemployment Insurance that allow me to hold a vow I’ve held for decades: No restaurants. No retail.

Another month or two my company will be back to raping the rich and I might even have insurance!

What, you can’t press charges? Good god, if the police have enough information to take them home to the parents with a warning, it should be a slam dunk case. Or take a picture of the moron who’s waving his theft in the window- another perfect piece of evidence.

I don’t know about alpha’s store, but a lot stores (especially big chains) don’t want to go to the money/trouble to prosecute shoplifters unless someone steals a big ticket item. I used to work in a convenience store that mostly carried groceries. If we spotted someone shoplifting, we could ask them to put it back or pay for it, and call the cops when they refuse, but that was it. Even if we knew who it was or where they lived (one guy lived on the same street as the store, and stole from us on a regular basis), no charges were ever pressed.

We banned a few people (like the guy I mentioned above), but the only way we could enforce it was by refusing to serve them when they came in. If they were just coming in to steal, they didn’t give a shit whether we served them or not.

Those darned toddlers bring it on themselves with their whining! That’s why so many die when left in the the hands of their 16 year old baby daddies, because their loud crying makes them “fall out of their high chairs” or “roll off the bed”. :frowning:

I hope that old fart who assaulted that toddler gets his ass flung in jail for so long he dies of an impacted bowel. But he’ll probably get probation and “counselling”.

My toddler only had a screaming crying jag in the shopping cart when the poor thing was teething. I picked her up, almost crying myself, and we left the store immediately. Fussiness and wanting to touch stuff is one thing, pain is another.

Anyway - there’s a goofball in my town that makes the rounds of the drugstores, the post offices, the thrift stores, the outdoor market, the parking lots - asking for money “for bus fare back home”. I haven’t seen him actually going into stores and begging from customers, so I’m hoping he’s banned. I like the idea of putting up a sign in an establishment warning people he’s out there, but the person who’s been scammed would only read it after the fact, if he’s not allowed to beg inside.
