Debaser Pits the Boston Radio Market

When it was 96.5 (96.3??) I could get it on my car radio, the new frequency does not come in on Long Island. Maybe in NYC, but not in Suffolk County.

I get two or three NPR stations, but not very well. 89.9, 91.1, 93.9. They’re pretty much all the same anyway.

Is it a broad brush? Sure. I’ve admitted as much. But it’s well deserved when talking about politicians in such a blatantly corrupt system as MA politics.

You don’t like it? Suck it the fuck up.

The “Bulger crew” refers to Whitey Bulger and his crew. I know that is too complicated for you to understand, but there it is.

The only one that’s confused about which brother is the mobster and which one is the politician is you.

I said “Bulger crew” because it was Kevin Weeks and another crew member that specifically attempted to kill Howie Carr but didn’t finish the job because his daughter was there. You insanely thought this was accusing Billy of murder when of course I did no such thing.

Read any of the four books I listed.

Here are the basic facts:

Whitey’s source of power was the FBI, since they arrested his enemies and let him basically do whatever he wanted. This is how he came to be so powerful.

Connolly and other FBI agents that protected Whitey in exchange for his money also were rewarded by Billy. Billy Bulger made sure to give them rewarding jobs after their mandatory 20 year FBI retirement. Connolly was given a Vice President position at a public utility.

Billy also provided political cover for Whitey, by dealing with State cops or other locals who wanted to take Whitey on.

None of this is in dispute by anyone.

Seriously, read any book on the subject.

He’s POP

All music is essentially DANCE music… you can dance to virtually all music
POP music is currently influenced by dance stuff like LMFAO etc….. Party Rock….

Two years ago it was so called R’n’B/HipHop, which had absolutely nothing in common with actual R’n’B or HipHop at some point.

Pop is currently perverting dance/techno 1.2.3.4.1.2.3.4 boom boom music at the moment.
It was done to Rock and any other genre at some point in time – Heavy metal: Europe - The Final Countdown anyone?

I spend a lot of time in my car, and listen to the radio all the time. Sometimes when I listen to one of the NPR stations available, they’ll source a story from “WGBH Boston”. I imagine that they have quite a bit of talk, and are likely on the FM dial, along with radio stations from colleges, who will often have terrific shows not heard anywhere else. Does Boston have any college radio?

From Wikipedia:

I’m now slightly horrified that my Google search bar is auto-filling “Wikipedia Justin Bieber” as I start typing it.

Post typed to the rocking sound of the Final Countdown

That’s tantamount to saying “Don’t pay any attention to what I’m saying, because I can’t be arsed to get into any actual detail.”

Like that.

Then how does Billy figure into it? Or politics at all? That’s *your *claim, *you *get to back it up, that’s how it works here. “Speaking truth to power”, you say?

You do know that what you write here is easily referenceable by simply scrolling up, and that anyone can do it, don’t you? Well, maybe you don’t, as your constant weaseling shows.

Of course. :stuck_out_tongue:

One was mentioned upthread which I tried but can’t get the signal for. They have notoriously weak signal strengths. I used to listen to a great college radio station that only comes in south of Boston, but I don’t remember it because I no longer am down that way.

UNH has a decent college radio station, but it suffers from the usual problem of switching student DJs every hour and with that getting dramatic programming shifts. It might be Hardcore for an hour followed by Country for an hour followed by Classical. It’s worth keeping an eye on, though.

Um, yes. Yes indeed, it does.

No. Actually it’s not “like that” at all. Like I said, if you can’t handle your precious politicians being called “hacks” that’s your problem. They could be, and indeed have been called much worse. Suck it up.

No. It’s not my claim. You brought it up. I posted that “Whitey’s Crew” attempted killing Howie Carr because he spoke the truth to power. This is true, as my cites have proven.

You, either due to poor reading comprehension or a desire to twist the meaning of my words somehow brought up Billy in response to this. I didn’t bring him up.

If you dispute anything that I’ve posted, have at it. You haven’t added any cites or facts to this thread at all and your ignorance of the subject is obvious to anyone reading your posts.

Ah, gotcha. It was 96.3 and then traded with a Spanish station (Ciente cinco punto nueve! Caliente!).

Well, can you get that modern rock station out there? When RXP was switching to sports talk, another radio station was advertising to switch to them – maybe 94.5 or something.

LOL… Justin Bieber is just horrifying, no matter what he’s influenced – but the teens seem to love him

I just love my 2fm radio station; they bring all sorts of music during the day… nice balance between old & new and various genres and they also do talk radio and news – it does the trick for me

If you can’t be at least basically honest, no, that problem is yours.

Then your definition of “power” is as shaky as your definition of “truth”. We had been discussing Massachusetts politicians. Somehow  you immediately brought up some old mobster as supporting “evidence”. IOW, either *you *made the connection to Billy or you’re incapable of creating a coherent chain of thought that is even superficially honest. On top of that, you’re being a fool for continuing to demonstrate that level of superficiality and dishonesty for us all to laugh at.

You would deny that Whitey Bulger at the peak of his reign over Boston had “power”? He’s just “some old mobster”? Give me a break.

You said that Howie was “going for entertainment value, not actual journalism. That stuff is hard.”

That comment is what I was responding to. That not only did Howie go after Whitey and his gang, but he did so at a time when others like the Boston Globe had been intimidated into silence. That’s actual journalism and yes it is hard, especially when it almost costs you your life.

It’s a direct example, backed up by cites that completely contradicts your claim. You can huff and puff all you want about Whitey not being a politician or other attempts at distraction and hand-waving, but that has nothing to do with it.

You got owned. Just slink away from the thread now.

Perhaps you’re missing the part where you were caught trying to backpedal away from your assertion that he was *part of the political *system in Massachusetts.

First Rule of Holes, bro.

You think the Globe never printed any “Where’s Whitey?” stories? Really? :p:p:p

You’re a poor pitiful dishonest fool. Or just a typical Howie Carr fan. Same thing.

Bet you can’t tell liquid dubstep from moombahton!

Now you’re just making more shit up. I’m not backing away from any of my statements and I have backed them up with cites. Something that you haven’t done one bit in this thread.

No. Not really. I didn’t say this and this is just more dishonest attempts by you of putting words in my mouth. Of course the Globe did stories about Whitey while he was on the run. He was powerless then. His reign had ended.

When they were dropping the ball in covering Whitey was when he was at the height of his power, before he fled the city as a fugitive.

This is all well documented stuff. It’s not controversial. It’s simply facts that you just aren’t aware of. You’re insistence of putting bizarre words in my mouth is an indicator that you’ve got nothing and thus have this need to make things up to try and win points.

If you want to learn more about Whitey, go ahead and read some of the books I listed. But I’m done trying to spoon feed cites to you since you obviously aren’t looking to educate yourself.

I’m repeating what you’ve said.

There is no need, or even possibility, of finding external cites to point out your incoherence. You can pout about your butthurt for as long as you’re willing to put up with the laughter.

Then maybe you’d like to, um, “reconsider” your claim of their silence? Some version of reality you got from the self-promoting *Herald *columnist we’ve been discussing?

Not in Howie World, it’s not, no. Where innuendo and gossip count as facts and insider knowledge, and entertainment is called insight.

Poor, pitiful fool.

So you’ve got nothing. No cites or information of your own to add regarding anything. Just an insistence that you are right. Everyone that’s studied the subject and written books on it is wrong. I’m wrong. Howie Carr is wrong. The Globe, the Herald, all wrong.

You are a joke.

This post is an attempt to see just how badly **Debaser **needs to have the last word. Anyone care to place a small wager?

I’m hoping that he might address my (now 4th(!)) mentioning of National Public Radio, so I won’t accept your offer.
