Deborah Kerr dead at 86

I heard this on the radio. There’s also a wiki site.

She was a start of stage and screen and best known for The King & I.

When you speak of her, and you will, be kind.

(First in with that line, boo-yah!)

(sigh)

I watch “An Affair to Remember” repeatedly for two things - Cary Grant & Deborah Kerr’s wardrobe. She was a class act.

VCNJ~

Darn. She was in so many movies that I love, some of which are:

The King and I
King Solomon’s Mines
Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison
Black Narcissus

I’m sad to see her go.

Those, and From Here to Eternity.

I’m sad. Class act, indeed.

The Oscar clip will definetly run her (Shall We) dancing with Brenner, and kissing Burt Lancaster on the beach in the surf.

Those, and The Innocents.

A lovely woman, and yet she wouldn’t take shit from anyone. I loved seeing her at the Academy Awards a few years ago.

One of my all-time favorite actresses. She set a high bar for others to follow. Two other fine performances were as an Australian shepherd in The Sundowners, and a haunted governess in The Innocents.

In addition to Black Narcissus (one of my 10 favorite films ever), she also worked memorably with Powell & Pressburger in the magnificent The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, in which she played multiple roles.

RIP.

Two of my alltime favorite movies. Both in my top 50 at least. And Tea and Sympathy, referenced by Otto, Minnelli’s Sirkian masterpiece, another alltimer.

Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison.

sigh

*The King and I * remains banned in Thailand as disresepctful to the monarchy. Didn’t seem to stop a member of the royal family from going backstage on Broadway in the 1950s to compliment the actors on the performance he just watched.
