Deceased Maine weatherman named as sole suspect in rape case

I posted in the death pool about a month ago about Tom Johnston, the meteorologist for WCSH-TV who went missing and was later found dead from suicide.
The sherrif’s department in Oxford County has released information yesterday that Johnston had been named as the lone suspect in asexual assault case that happened the night before he disappeared. This is a very sad development in an already tragic story.
If he were still alive, he would be charged with sexual assault.

What makes the development “very sad”? The fact that a man died, or the fact that nobody gets revenge?

I think maybe I would rather be dead, than to be an innocent “suspect” in a rape. And we do not know that he was not innocent.

I’m just guessing here, but maybe it’s sad because somebody was sexually assaulted.

You are correct that we do not know if he was actually guilty, and the article mentions the investigation was closed due to his death, so we will never learn the answer.
I think the way he died was very sad, and it may have happened because he knew he was guilty.

Yes, this as well.

Someone has claimed they were sexually assaulted.

Reading the article linked in the OP makes me scratch my head. It’s not very clear but it seems like the woman was someone he did not know and snuck into her bedroom. It’s not typical behavior even for a criminal so it’s possible that there was some mental illness issues as well.

Did you read the link? Not only did the woman identify him, which we’ll set aside, but another person entered the room while he was in it with her and saw him there and also identified him. He was a suspect for reasons beyond the victim’s account.

Yes the way I interpreted it was she recognized him. He’s on tv. Not that they were friends. Like I said, it’s not very clear in the article.
