December 2010-January 2011 Weight Loss Thread

I went from 106 kilos in March to 88 kilos now. It feels good to have a waist again. My ultimate goal is whatever weight will have me at a clothing size 40-42 (M-L). I’m a 46 (XL?) now. How about you?

Starting Weight (June 23 ) - 218
Current Weight - 195

Definitely on the slow and steady plan right now, work has been crazy which is great for the bank account but not so awesome for the eating regularly and exercising.

Making plans for improvements however. We’ve hired a new person who is taking over several of my very time consuming and not very interesting tasks. Also, when this session of photography classes finishes next week I’ll no longer have 2 class nights/week + assignments added to my schedule. Starting in January I’m only doing one photography class and I’ve signed up for a belly dancing class one night a week. I hate all forms of exercise but I love dancing and I’m doing it with friends so hopefully that will assist in maintaining the interest.

Even in the worst weeks I’ve managed to not increase my weight more than a pound though so I’m counting that as a check in the success column. Mostly I just keep reminding myself that it took a couple years to put on the additional weight and it’s going to take the same time to take it off again.

Still plateaued at 160. It’s been cold and rainy here so I’ve not kept up my outdoor cardio since Thanksgiving week, but I’ve upped my situps and weight training.

The good news is the food-centric holidays have done no damage because I managed to keep my head and not eat like a crazy person. This is despite a tasty bacon-wrapped BBQ beef roast plus baking two batches of homemade mini pumpkin pies. Yay!

I’ll be flying home next month and I’ll be surprising my entire family with my 30lb weight loss. Should be fun.

I started with a Wii Fit on November 25. My BMI has been falling more or less steadily from about 30.7 to 30.3. I believe in 3 pounds (at 209), I’ll go under 30 and be down to the overweight side of borderline obese. My max weight this year was 216.5; my nominal weight has been 213 to 215.

I got the Wii Fit because:

  1. I tried twice this year to go to the company’s free gym twice a week. Neither time could I sustain the commitment.
  2. Similarly, I know that if I were to buy a particular piece of workout equipment, I wouldn’t sustain the commitment to use it even twice a week.
  3. But I can play a video game every day like nobody’s business!

My balance control is already improving. I’ve been specifically working my core muscles as well as the balance games. And when I need a break, Sports Resort’s kendo game provides an awesome workout.

My goal is to look awesome in a tuxedo at my wedding next June! And to have the stamina to dance at the party.

The chocolate cake they make in my cafeteria is irresistible. I have no control over whether I eat it at lunch everyday. I feel helpless.

I’m gearing up for what’s going to be my New Year’s resolution. I want to MAKE myself work out. I have access to free equipment at work that is available 24/7. Now I just have to find time. I work 3 jobs so between that and the kids, I know it will be hard. That means sleep moves farther down on the list.

I need this, though. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life and I hate it. I need to just suck it up and go for it, but I need motivation/encouragement/someone to kick my ass when I don’t follow through.

I had plateaued at 165 for three weeks, but Thanksgiving (of all things!) pushed me off and I have lost another 5 pounds, for a total of 20 lost since September 10th.

I’m happy to have lost this much, so any more that comes off in the next few months will be gravy. The SparkPeople calculator seems to think that I’ll be down to 140 by May.

Francis, I suggest what worked for me: Start small. Keep with the small step until you’re ready for another.

I had started with 1 minute of marching in place every morning for a week. Then 2 minutes. Then 3 minutes. During that week, I bought the Wii. Now I’m up to 15 minutes a morning, and that only because I have to go to work.

My BMI rose back from 30.4 to 30.7 late last week. My lady says my leg muscles look much better defined, and I think my abs are strengthening. So I think the BMI change is thrown off by muscle growth. (A known weakness of BMI.)

Hmmm. . . not a lot of activity this month. End of year bump, although I haven’t really been playing: I’ve lost 22.4 pounds (225.4 - 203, and 8.8 since Thanksgiving) since Oct. 14–despite Thanksgiving, Holiday Potlucks, leftovers in the breakroom, Holiday drop-ins, etc., etc., etc. And not a single week with an increase. So much for “holiday weight gain.”

I go completely booze-free in December. I hate xmas and this is a good way to avoid all the festivities I despise. I also started exercising more with a rowing machine and turbo trainer during the week and 2-3 hour walks at the weekends. I’ve gone from 225 to 209 or BMI from 27 to 25 since December 1st. The goal is to get below and stay below 200.
