In an effort to keep this thread from growing too large, I have started to December weight loss club.
Now for the important stuff. Happy Birthday to me! December first is my birthday.
Was at the docs today. The good news: My sugar is good, my cholesteral is good my BP is great (OK, it is normal, but for me that is great) despite that fact that I gave up my bp meds 6 months ago.
Now the bad news. I gained 5 lbs this month. Not too surprising. Thanksgiving and birthday treats and beer and well, just being bad.
It’s already December here in Japan, so I’ll be the first to post a December weight! I weighed myself before my run and I’m 195! So I’m down about 8 1/2 lbs for November.
My current goal is to get down to 187 and then reassess. I’m running a couple times a week, and I want to start light weight trainng a couple times a week.
My wife is on board for helping meal planning and what we eat.
I won’t even pretend to hope I’ll lose five pounds in a month anymore. This close to my goal, I’m nearly at a standstill. A half-pound or maybe a pound per week, but eh.
I’m back to my pre-Thanksgiving weight of 180. Still hoping to break into the 170s. The good news is that the brand new jeans I ordered for myself are too big. I’ll need to shrink them a bit. It’s hard for me to get it in my head that maybe I need to try on/buy a size smaller. Also, the pants I bought about a month-and-a-half ago that were snug are now loose. Yay!
I have lost 8 lbs this month - I was a bit annoyed at that because it was 10 lbs last month but I guess it does slow down after time. I’m not worrying about it because it’s still 8 lbs and I can’t complain about that - after all, 2 lbs a week is supposed to the safe norm.
The other story is that a guy in my gym (in his 60’s I would say) was on the machine beside me the other day, and when he’d finished, he turned around to me and said “Wow, you’ve really lost a lot of weight, good on you”! I was thrilled. I think for a man that age to say something to a girl, he’d probably thought about whether he should say something and decided to say it anyway (he’s a quiet man really). So I was pretty impressed.
PS don’t forget that we don’t have Thanksgiving or anything over here, so no excuse to overeat. I’m hoping to break even for December!
The Low Key Hillclimb time trial series is over, so I’m going to have to find something else to motivate me. I succeeded in my goal of finishing “not last”, but for next year I’d like to finish at the median. This means I’m going to have to double my power to weight ratio. Losing another ~20 pounds should really help, but I’m going to have to improve my strength as well.
I stopped food journaling, but I’d probably be doing better if I started up again. For the last month or two, I’ve rationalized bad choices due to the training I’ve been doing.
I have no idea what weight I am at because my scale is giving me wildly different weights every time I step on it. It said I was 172 the first few times I stepped on it but it finally told me 182 after about the fourth attempt and when I tried it again just to see if it had stabilized, I was suddenly at 178.
While I would love to believe I’m 172 (or even 178), I find both higly unlikely due to my eating habits the past couple weeks, not to mention the quarter-pounder and fries I had for lunch and the large salad I had right before weighing myself. I’m not even sure I believe the 182, honestly, and was expecting something much closer to 190.
I got my Tanita on eBay for really cheap. They’re pretty good scales and very accurate. I believe Weight Watchers endorses Tanita scales, but don’t quote me on it.
Well, I seem to be making good progress at the moment, so I’m pretty thrilled.
I started thinking about this in the (IIRC) Feb thread. At that point I was about 195. Although I thought I was doing well (and I do think I was actually living a bit healthier), by the end of the summer I was up about 10 pounds to 205.
It was kind of disheartening, but in the last month I’m almost back to where I started (yesterday I was 196).
More importantly, I’ve been going to the gym a minimum of two and a maximum of four times a week, and have greatly improved my endurance/speed (I usually run on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes at lunchtime). At the same time, I’m finding myself a lot less hungry, and probably eating on average 25% fewer calories than I had been, and not missing them that much. Case in point, last week some friends and I went out for chinese food for lunch. Where usually I’d eat the whole thing, and then have a large dinner as well, I got stuffed after eating only about half of my lunch, brought it home and ate it for dinner with a beer and bowl of soup.
It’s funny that being in better shape and being more physical is actually dampening my appetite.
Anyway, I’m pretty pleased with the direction things are going.
I ran an 8 k on Sunday after having only restarting jogging slowly about a month ago, and for only 12 min. max. I finished in less than 45 minutes, so I was happy.
I’m down a few more pounds! I weighed 193 this morning, so I’m almost 10 lbs less than my max a month ago. My wife and I went to the gym last night. We had signed up for membership a month ago, but between my trade show and a trip to Korea, we didn’t have a chance to go. We’re aiming for 2 to 3 times a week.
We’re flying to Taiwan at the end of the month and will take wedding pictures, so I want to be looking the best I can.
I’m signing up for a 10 k run in January, so make sure I have a goal soon enough to keep me exersizing.
Hi everyone, I am back down to 198.5 today. Still hoping to get to 195 before Christmas so when I gain 3 pounds, I will have tread water for the month.
I have an odd question for anyone that might know.
When I weighed 200 pounds 10 years ago, I did not have a double chin. I was somewhat proud of this, as it allowed me to wear my extra weight a little better. I got all the way up to 240 and I had a double chin. Now I am back below 200 and I still have a little bit of a double chin.
Does this ever go away?
Can I help it go away? I am already a no cal gum chewer; it helps me with my diet.
Are there any other suggestions? Will it go away when I get down to 170 pounds?
I think it’s a function of age, Jim. I know parts of me aren’t anywhere near where they were ten years ago. My double chin seems to have disappeared as of late, so maybe yours will too.
