I don’t know if anyone here reads Wired, but they had a really good insert on the P2P community, and about the Napster lawsuit (an interview with the lawyer defending Napster from the RIAA, actually), and an essay on the death of intellectual property. In the article, they provided this link which allows you to purchase (damned cool) T-shirts to help the Open Source community. This is a cause that I believe in, and I would urge anyone else who believes in it to visit the site and either purchase a shirt, game, whatever, of which a portion of the total (usually $3-$5) is donated to the Open Source coders themselves, or to donate directly in whatever amount you wish.
I, for one, purchased both of the DeCSS T-shirts that they have available. I may never wear them, but the very fact that someone out there spending lots of money and trying as hard as they can to keep this from me makes it completely worth having. That and that alone should be the reason that everyone on this board should purchase one, for it is attempted censorship.
Anyway, I’m going off on a tangent here, I just wanted to share that link up top so you can all show your support.
And please, I know some people are going to come in here and start trashing the place, you know who you are, and I’m asking you nicely not to. I try to show restraint in your PETA threads, your Greenpeace, Sierra club, and what have you threads, so please don’t wipe your feet on my causes, no matter how vehemently you disagree, m’kay?
Oh, and hey, while you’re at it, why don’t you pay Lars for all those .mp3’s he’s lost money on, thanks to you. I hear he’s had to trade in for a smaller limo, and can only afford $2500 bottles of wine, these days.
Thanks, and I’m off my soapbox for now.
