Dedicated Icemaker Problem

We have an undercounter icemaker which we love. Kitchenaid Model: KU1s18nntw1 Serial Number: EW1010040.

Just recently, when it started getting hot, ice production plummeted. We keep the interior temp. of the about 80, so that should be fine. Ice is being produced but it is very thin. It is hard to tell if there are less cycles than there used to be, or simply very thin ice. First I cleaned the condensor coils which were packed with dust. Thought that would do it. It did not. Next got some cleaning solution and cleaned the working parts as described in the manual. Still very little, very thin ice. What else might be going on here that I could check and adjust. Is there a way to make the ice thicker, perhaps that would help? Any suggestions and advice would be most appreciated. Even I, who used to hate ice, have become very fond of this machine.

Possibly low on freon (or equivalent)?

From the sound of it, if you have cleaned the coils and air filters, and are getting ice, but it is thin, then there is a possibility that the water spray system is clogged up.

Check the inlet filter for one thing.

I don’t know if there is a descaling procedure, or a descaling solution you can run through that model easily, but it sounds like a possibility. The other possibilities include a leak in the water tray. I don’t know how that model works, but I have a commercial 680 lb icemaker on the back porch, and it needs to be purged once a year with a descaling solution.
