I always liked the 70’s and early 80’s porn. It was rawer and the actors more real. I don’t have any porn in my laser disc collection made before 1990.
I saw Deep Throat a couple times. It wasn’t my favorite but it is a cultural curiosity.
Seeing the photos of this house brought back a few old memories. A lot of the early porn films were filmed in private residences because there was less chance of getting busted by the Vice Squad. Adult actors were considered prostitutes in the 70’s and prosecuted. Harry Reems had charges filed for appearing in Deep Throat.
I got a bad feeling whoever buys it will tear out all the 70’s decor. I’m glad pictures were taken before it sells.
Whoops, yes that’s right. Adult movies made before 1990. Ginger Lynn, Angel, Veronica Hart from the 80’s, and Candida Royalle, Desiree Cousteau, Lesllie Bovee from the 70’s.
I always tell newbies to watch Eruption with Lesllie Bovee and John Holmes. It was filmed in Hawaii and has some really nice film work on the beach and coastal highway. One of the best films either actor ever made.
It’s ironic that Deep Throat is so much better known. Linda Lovelace was really not that good an actress or very attractive. But, Deep Throat’s production was such a big leap forward from the typical Stag Films and Porno Loops that were made previously. It is worth watching at least once. Deep Throat and Marilyn Chambers movies (Beyond the Green Door, Insatiable ) paved the way for mainstream adult film.
If Deep Throat was the beginning of mainstream adult film, what was the end? No individual adult films being released now are mainstream enough to be common knowledge in 30 or 40 years (Deep Throat was made before I was born, I’ve never seen it, and yet I still know what it is).
If you ever saw the early porno loops you’d be shocked at the low quality. Porno shops in NY Times Square, and San Francisco had these machines that you fed coins into and it played the loops. There was no story. No lighting. Set up a camera and let it rip while the “actors” screwed their brains out.
Carnivals were another place in the 50’s and 60’s that showed stag films. They’d have a “safe” non-sex reel and a stag reel. If they heard the cops were planning to raid they’d put the “safe” reel on the projector and hide the stag reel.
Movies like Beyond the Green Door, Deep Throat and the Johnny Wadd films had a real story and they tried to hire people with some acting experience. They also spent money going on location (like Hawaii) to film. By the early 80’s they really were trying to create mainstream adult films with solid story and a few sex scenes. AIDS killed that idea. Several of the best Actresses like Kay Parker, Veronica Hart, and several male actors left the business. Thankfully none of them got AIDS, and they were smart to quit when they did. (AIDS did kill a few porn stars later. Most were heavy IV drug users)
