I saw this game advertised on another messageboard, and thought “How cute! Some little upstart company is making a name for themselves by having rappers do ring fights…How nice!”
Then I find out that it is from my favorite gaming company: Electronic Arts.
Wow.
They are really digging for fresh material these days.
Personally I can’t wait to see future titles such as “News Anchor Racing!” and “Days of Our Lives Softball”.
I woundn’t callthe idea old or “ran out of” but just a recent trend in gaming, that is to mix generes, which I actullay think is a good idea. Def Jam Vendetta will bring together fans of Hip-Hop and wrestling alike.Plus the Ea Sports BIG team is the same line that made SSX Tricky and NBA Street. So the game has a lot of expectations going for it. The disappointing factors so far are no create a wrestler and Story mode only has 4 players.
WWE has also been doing it lately as well with WWE Crush Hour which is the WWE Superstars (The Rock,Stone Cold, ect) mixed with Twisted Metal style Car Combat action.
Considering how popular the PS2 is among rappers, I’m not surprised. I kinda want to play it, it sounds cool. And Def Jam is hardly a little upstart company.
Plus it uses the AKI wrestling engine used in the best wrestling games out there, (WCW & WWF WrestleMania 2000/No Mercy) I know nothing about the Def Jam “artists” but I’ll pick this game up because I know it’s a solid gaming engine and I loved those previous games.
Well, I guess they do have a market then.
[sub]I still say the concept it silly. Of course, so is Final Fantasy when you get down to it I suppose.[/sub].
I’ll say. Bally-Midway pioneered it in 1983 with their arcade game based on the rock band Journey. It was the first game to use digitized pictures of real people as characters in the game.
