SWMBO and I saw it tonight. Good movie, based on historical fact. Good acting by the leads. At least, that’s what I’m led to believe - I missed at least half the movie because it’s filmed with shaky-cam and it makes me motion sick.
As a result, I have to say: don’t waste your money on it.
Sorry about the motion sickness, Clothahump, but I just didn’t see it. I saw the film yesterday, and don’t remember the shaky camera, except in a few of the battle scenes to add to the ‘fog of war.’ I thought it was an excellent film and would recommend it. I just wonder why Liev Schrieber isn’t a bigger star.
I am happy this story is being told. My Grandfather served as a partisan in Belarus, and my dad tells me the movie is just how his father described the experience.
Good acting by Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber.
I agree with carnivorousplant. I felt relieved when that happened.
The movie is very honest.Tuvia (Daniel Craig) is never portrayed as a saint. He does some pretty bad things, but he still comes away as a hero.
It’s nice to see a holocaust movie were the Jews fight back and win. If anyone is wondering why Jews care so much about Israel, you should take a look at this film to see how hard some of them struggled to keep themselves and their culture alive.
This is the second time Daniel Craig has played a blond-haired, blue-eyed Jewish bad-ass. For the life of me, I’ve never met a single blond-haired, blue-eyed Jew. Is there some place in this world with a significant number of these people?
Eastern Europe?
I married into a family of blue-eyed, high cheekboned Ashkenazic Jews, whose forebears were from Russia, and my two sons are fair-haired and blue-eyed (but I’m a WASP.)
Defiance looks pretty good, still can’t decide whether to see it now or wait for Netflix.
