Define "Politically Correct" + Give 2 examples in your life worth raging at

Drumpf – A prime example of a whiney titty baby who can dish it out but can’t take it.

Trump is not good enough to when a debate without resorting to name calling, he just leverages the anti-PC hate to make up for that fact.

but like I said, HE can’t take it.

Yes, typical terrified bully behavior, feign toughness to hide your cowardliness and inability to debate the topics.

Here’s the thing, it used to be “OK” to say things like that in the office, to tell racist or anti-gay jokes, to harass women, all in the office. OK in the sense that nothing negative would happen to you, and you may even get promoted because you’re such a card and are so funny. Women and minorities were just supposed to smile and take it, and gay people just hid their personal life (and smile and maybe even play along). (Note, I’m not saying that Knowed Out’s comment was equivalent to a racist joke, etc.) Of course that’s not OK from a human perspective and that’s why standards have evolved and continue to evolve.

But, KO’s story is a great example of the PC police, in a positive way, not as a snarl word. KO’s manager was acting like the (positive) definition of the PC police – “hey, you can’t say that here,” but did it in a positive, constructive way.

I’m with the convo here and appreciate it. I notice that we don’t have a battery of righties chiming in. I swear in other threads they are there saying “This PC BS!!!” or sometimes “This is a hostile environment for conservatives!” so I think there is some hyperbole going on. (When it is cited it is in the heat of argument and this is not exactly platos dialogs here)

Scylla is a rightie and he says it’s more like sand in the shorts. It’s a telling admission.

But really I am disappointed in Bill Maher for this weeks show. I like him and think he is funny, but he is just massaging his brand with this stuff and he ought to know better IMO.

Page 3 and no raging examples is a datum. I’d like this to be a good sample though.

I guess you’ve never had sand in your shorts. It’s really unpleasant.
And, i’m Unaffiliated these days. More like progressive with conservative values, but you know, Republicans spend in ways that make Democrats look responsible (you’d think you could talk about that instead of policing the language, but I digress)

Anyway… try this on, just see how it fits;
So, we have the whitest person in the world, Elizabeth Warren, doing the stolen valor thing, except claiming to be an underprivileged minority. I’m not sure how this works but the power of PC somehow gives her victim status, and lets her compete and score some intersectionality points against Kampala Harris or something, defends her against criticism.

She write a recipe for crab bisque and puts it in “Pow Wow Chow” a Native American cookbook that has nothing to do with native Americans and might have the most jingoistic name ever. She really did this. i’m Not making that up.

In the articles she writes she claims Native American status, and the schools they teach get diversity points by playing off this status. At the same time she does absolutely nothing for Native Americans other than make bank and score points out of bogarting their diversity points (pissing them off quite a bit in the process.)

All this is going well and nothing can be done even though basically everybody knows that a Jeep Grand Cherokee has more claim to Native American status than she does. Because it’s not PC to challenge her. It’s dangerous. You get shouted down. You get called a bigot. How dare you!

Now here’s the fun part;

In 2010 a lifelong Democrat and one of the worst people in the world decides that he wants to be President. He doesn’t think he can do it as a Dem, so he meets with Steve Bannon and asks what he needs to don to become Republican. He gives money to anti-abortion causes and Republicans, completes his conversion and in 2016 begins his journey, against all odds to become the President. (See the 2nd chapter of Bob Woodward’s new book. You can’t make this stuff up.)

Now this guy, Donald Trump, is odiousness made flesh. Whatever terrible hyperbole or made up thing you could say about him… is probably literally true. He has paid a dark and terrible price, but by stripping himself of every shred of human decency he has begun, in the words of Kanye West his “hero’s journey” (again, you just can’t make this up.)

His trip through the filth that is his life has had this strange effect. It has given him a superpower.

He is completely immune to PC. He can say or do whatever he wants and it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t effect him. He has no decency to lose. It doesn’t seem like much of a superpower, and he mostly just uses it to ‘grab woman by the pu***’ (again you can’t make this up.)

But now, as a candidate, and later as a President he learns to use this power against his opponents and enemies. He can say the things against them that a lot of people think, or know, but dare not say. This will enrage them and they will respond and stoop to his level. Unlike him, they have something to lose, and they destroy themselves fighting with him, shredding their own decency.

He is very good at this, having honed this skill on reality tv and twitter and against Rosie O’donnell.

Now everybody knows that Warren is full of shit, but only Trump can call her on it. He calls her Pocahontas, demeans and makes fun of her for her obviously stolen diversity (that nobody else dares call her on, because it is anti-PC to do so in this day and age where we all get to be whatever we say we are, no matter how divorced from reality those statements are.

Warren has been playing this game for so long that maybe she actually believes her bullshit (all the best con people do,). But Trump is a bigger con person, so he sees right through it.

She attempts to actualize her fiction into reality through a DNA test, and believes her own lie so much that when the test shows that somewhere between 200-400 years ago, there might have been a Mexican or Bolivian or Indian in her bloodline, she actually believes this supports her story, that her father’s parents ostracized her Mom because she was an Indian (the other specifics of this story also appear to be unraveling,)

She goes public to prove her point, and demand Trump pay her charity the money he promised if she proved she was an Indian.

Pretty quickly it turns out that people can actually read, and 1/64th to 1/1024th Latin American blood does not a Cherokee make (nor your Mom.)

The coup de grace comes not fro Trump. He doesn’t even have to bother. The Cherokee nation itself steps up and bitchslaps he for her cultural appropriation about as hard as anybody has ever been bitchslapped. They apparently have had quite enough of white people stealing their shit throughout history, and they will be damned if they will let this person take the last thing that hasn’t been stolen from them, their identity.

Warren’s suicide by DNA test is complete.
Trump has actually accomplished probably the only positive thing he has ever done (for selfish reasons and completely by accident.). Only great odiousness can destroy great odiousness, and stealing heritage for political gain is about as odious as it gets

Trump’s anti-PC abilities have removed Warren’s PC shield and revealed the truth that we all knew, but dared not utter, and he got her to do it to herself. She is done. Finished. She is Fauxcohontas forever.

This slight virtue is too much for Trump. It burns him like sunlight burns a vampire. He immediately goes on to Twitter and starts calling a female pornstar he once slept with while he was married “horserface” while cackling over his legal victory over her, exacting revenge on her for daring to compare his penis to the mushroom in Mario Bros.

So, PC is the disease, Trump is the cure. He reveals and destroys the hypocrisies and abuses of PC culture. it self-immolates in his presence.

And that, is a true story.

These are very entertaining times we live in

Huh, I thought you were arguing just now that complaints about “cultural appropriation” are part of the “PC culture” of whiny “assholes” that you claim you want to get rid of.

A white woman mistakenly believing that she has significant Native American ancestry is “about as odious as it gets”? Really? Can’t imagine how indignant you must be about, say, the name of the Washington football team if Warren’s associating herself with Native identity several decades ago gets you this outraged.

It’s just bullshit. Just like “muslims dancing in the streets after 9/11” or “violent mobs of angry unhinged liberals”.

See it differently? Yeah. I wouldn’t have commented on my co worker’s sexuality to begin with.

Baba Yaga? That’s old school 1st edition nerdery.

I’m gonna go with “what the fuck are you talking about” for 500, Alex. The idea that nobody can call a white person out when they pull the old “I’m a Native American, my great-great-great-great-grand-uncle’s best friend was half Iroquois” is just really wrong and has been for a while. Just for kicks, here’s Moviebob (a guy who did a whole episode on how much he’s sick of right-wing abuse of the term “political correctness”) doing it back in 2013. It’s got nothing to do with Trump - he’s not breaking new ground here. He’s not exposing some hypocrisy. Everyone knows Warren’s claim is nonsense, and the reaction from the left is not, “Whaaaaaaat?! Trump was able to call her out on this?!” Instead, it’s, “Whaaaat?! Warren doubled down on this bullshit which everyone knows is bullshit?! How the fuck are we supposed to back her run for president now?”

The unique thing about Trump is not that he can call out PC where others can’t. The unique thing about Trump is that he can lie nonstop and say the most horrific things, things which basically all of us here would agree should be disqualifying for a fucking McDonalds middle-manager, let alone a mainstream politician, and get away with them.

I’m glad you agree she was a jerk, and hope that means we can stop pushing the narrative that she got in trouble simply for making Mexican food despite being white. That is the “PC” narrative version.

I also agree that, if you taste a food, find something you like, and try to replicate it, that’s fine. That’s reverse engineering, and is perfectly legal.

But I do not agree with stealing recipes. Just because you go to Mexico where they’re unlikely to be able to sue you doesn’t make intellectual property theft okay. If you want their actual recipe, you can either reverse engineer it or get their permission. What you don’t do is sneakily try to get different parts from different workers and then sneak and watch them.

I know it’s happened in the past, but it doesn’t mean I have to approve of it. And I don’t think it would’ve meant we’d lose out on any ethnic foods that already exist. Those were nearly always brought over by immigrants or people sharing their recipes intentionally.

This isn’t the case where a college got upset that their cafeteria served subpar Japanese foods, not having the full, proper ingredients, and called it cultural appropriation. Sure, complain about the quality of the food if you want, and, if they call it “authentic,” say it isn’t. But don’t sully “cultural appropriation” when it doesn’t fit. That’s where we have problems: these small stories where people misuse the concepts, and they become the flag bearers by the anti-PC crowd.

Nevermind that even liberals said “No, that’s not right.” Which is what I presume septimus wants use to do.

“Political Correctness” is what assholes use as the reason to claim others are “assholes”. In reality, 95% of the time, they are being labeled “politically incorrect” because the accusers are power-seeking assholes, not because of any real concern.

“For every woman or man who is quietly and sensibly using the idea to look carefully at our assumptions, there are twenty rabble-rousers whose real motive is a desire for power over others. The fact that they see themselves as antiracists or feminists or whatever does not make them any less rabble-rousers.” --Doris Lessing

For fuck’s sake, Scylla. There is nothing non-PC about saying a white woman is lying about her heritage. Liberals have been doing that for fucking ever. Did you forget about Rachel Dolenzaal? Did you forget about

Trump is not the one who brought up the idea that she had claimed to be a minority. That came up in the 2012 election. Her opponent dug it up. Trump is only known for being the asshole who called her a slur against Native Americans.

And, no, that wasn’t what people were thinking but unable to say. Only goddamned fucking racists thought of her as an anti-Native-American slur.

Trump isn’t being non-PC by using slurs, anymore than the 12-year-old Halo player is when the use the n-word. That’s the direction racists want to take it, because they think everyone secretly thinks of everyone in terms of these slurs. That all white people secretly think that white people are in fact superior and the others are lesser.

Trump is not being non-PC. He’s not merely saying things people don’t want to hear. He’s being full on abusive. He talks to people like an abuser does to their victim. If that’s being non-PC, then PC means “not being an asshole.” But that isn’t the definition Scylla gives.

And we end with a contradiction. He has said previously both that PC is not that big a deal, only being an annoyance. He says that Trump is odious and awful. But then, on his final post, he defends Trump for being the antidote to PC. So he thinks Trump is less bad than political correctness. So either Trump isn’t all that bad, or he does think that PC is some huge problem that we need a psychopath to fix.

You may notice that I am not talking to him directly anymore. I’m starting to suspect that he’s just like other conservatives who just change PC to be whatever they want it to mean. He’s already twisting himself to find a way to praise Trump despite calling him odious and horrible. All the while ignoring most counterarguments.

I’m suspecting he’s not here to actually discuss the issue, and is just dumping whatever he thinks will work. And so I’m not engaging with him anymore, either. But I will call out his rhetoric.

One big problem with that reversal. “Politically incorrect” is a self-identifying term. IN other words, the “PC” crowd never label anyone as “politically incorrect.” That’s your term.

Another problem is that “power seeking assholes” describes politicians on both sides. But you have decided that only 5% of your side are assholes, while 95% of the other side are assholes.

And, finally, quoting something doesn’t make an argument on its own. The fact that this Lessing says these things does not in any way prove they are true. In fact, her use of “rabble rousers,” a disparaging term for those who upset the status quo, makes her entirely suspect on the subject at hand, since the only way change happens is if the status quo is altered.

You can’t just invert a concept and have it work. It might be a nice rhetorical flourish, but it doesn’t actually refute anything.

You just come across as labeling the other side “power seeking assholes” because you can’t refute them.

WTF yourself. That first paragraph is just him arguing how, rather than being PC, it was just a lack of professional courtesy, and then explaining the issue. For some reason, both you and the poster are acting like it was some sort of insult. Even though the poster admitted what they said is wrong.

I don’t see how it fits the PC label myself, either. PC is used for “left wing fascists” who are trying to prevent people from discussing things. Or it’s just “left wing idea I disagree with.” Neither fit the situation here. It was just a boss telling him the rules of professional courtesy.

And you admit it was professional courtesy. It’s just that you think that includes PC. I don’t, because it’s not used that way. But, hey, if you want to reclaim the term, have at it.

You will notice i’m Not talking to BigT anymore. BigT takes everything literally and is too difficult to communicate with.

But it’s good that he’s not shirking his PC responsibilities by failing to “call out” rhetoric.

Response to Scylla’s interesting post (too long to selectively quote) where he says it’s a PC violation to call Warren on her Native American bullshit.

Here’s a way-left columnist who does just that: Column: Donald Trump goes low, and Elizabeth Warren joins him – Chicago Tribune

But Elizabeth Warren is not Native American. If anything, the DNA test proved nothing.

Shame on her for continuing to insist that she is.
